Also, according to the kumho tire site, the closest size to the 275/50/17 that you suggested(they don't make that size) would be 265/60R17, and 275/60R17
i never said a thing about kuhmos...falken and nitto makes a 275/50/17...if your going to go with a 255/50 i recomend a general rubber tire called the grabber...

A 275 wide tire is a tread width .8inches wider than a 255 so it will be .4 wider in each direction so it will be .4 out towards the outside, a 275/50/r17 will fit on rim from 7.5 on up to around 10, so you are good on rim width too!

Cool..and yea I changed my mind from my first post that I made in this thread, and am going with the Kumho's. What about the sizes I posted from their site..I'm assuming that the 265/60/17 will be the same, just a bit thinner. The main thing I'm going for here is the sidewall height.

a 265/50 will be about .4 skinier in tread width, and about .5inches shorter in hight...

the second number means that the sidewall hight is that percentage of the width which is the first number...

on my R/T I run the falken 275/50/17= 28" daimeter (stock OD) and rear hankook 275/55/17=29" diameter both of these are a hair wider than stock but look beautiful, looks awsome if you like the back jacked up. also stock suspension w/rear air shocks

if they are both 275/55 they shouldnt be an inch different in height...did you miss type?

Not sure if you have bought your tires yet or not, but anything smaller than the stock 29" tall tire will look small on your stock height Dakota. Personally, I'd suggest either a 275/55/17, or a 255/60/17. You don't really "need" a wider tire and a 255 will probably already be wider than what you are running right now.

if your truck is at stock hight, and you go with a 27inch tall tire instead of a stock 29...then yeah...its a possibility...the 275/50 is what im going to be going with on my r/t which is lowered an aditional 2 inches past where a stock r/t sits...
Whatch out for rubbing on the front tires right where the fender flare is attached to the fender. Because it will rub if you are 2" lower than stock. Been there modified that to eliminate rubbing, and that was with just the Hotchkis drop.

its the same hight as the stock tire bro!...y would it rub if it doesnt already?

It's the same height, but also wider. And even the "stock" tire would rub a little with a 2" drop. I own a R/T, I know what the different sizes are as I have run everything from stock, to 275/50/17, to 275/55/17, 255/60/17, and currently 255/50/17. Unles someone produces a 285/50/17 tire, you won't see me running anything other than 255/50/17on my R/T.

im not saying your wrong...but my 255/55 doesnt come close to rubbin and a 275 is only .8inch wider, (.4 each way) Rick (rtgrouchman) ran a 275/50 on his and loved them and i think hes at the same height as me:huh:...im dont doubt that yours might have rubbed, my tire guy said that it is crazy how much a vehicle can vary in how the wheel well gap is from car to car even in the same make and model:huh:

Yeah, my '00 sits lower than my '99 and it's the exact same Hotchkis kit. But I was rubbing on my '99 with the Hotchkis. Granted, if you never push the limits of the handling, or hit many speed bumps you probably won't have any problems. Also, if you haven't changed out your front bump stops, then you will probably bottom out on the bump stops before you rub the wheel.

honestly my truck pretty much rides the front bump stops all the time as is... i wish i was the one that put the drop kit on like i did on my other truck...i would have done a few things differently...i think it still has the stock shocks too which will hopefully get changed out pretty soon here!

Actually, my Michelin's that I'm running now are 255/65/R16. I was thinking of going with...like silver bullet suggested in previous posts with the 275/50/17 Falken's. That is bigger than than my stock size tire, no?

actually the 275/50/17 would be an inch shorter than your stock 255/65/16

Ok, based on what you guys have told me and after doing more research, I'm going with 255/60/17 Toyo Proxes ST II tires. I'm ordering the wheel/tire package online from performanceplustire.com. Anyone hear any good/bad things about them?
