Most people don't modify their vehicles expecting a return on the investment.
You will almost never get a return on your investment, but some mods pay off more than others. A efan is low on the totem pole.

An e-fan isn't something you do to try and save money in fuel costs.
reduced drag
So if not for fuel savings, what? HP? LOL

it helps clean up engine bay because you can get rid of ugly stock fan shroud.
Depending on how it is done, most backyardigans are hacks. Zip tie the thing to the aluminum core? Asking for trouble. Custom mounts are great if you have the means and skill to weld to aluminum. Something almost no bachyardigan has.

It's just another one of those mods where the juice is not worth the squeeze, kinda like rear disc swaps. ;)

Once again, if you don't think it is worth it, then dont do it to your truck.

The benefits outweighed the cost for me, and for most people. Enough so I just spent $95 buying a new fan for my shroud after my original one went bad.

I can tell you that since being introduced to the world of Dodges after spending many years with Japanese cars I have been amazed at all of the very common problems that NEVER happen with a Japanese car. So now I am intrigued, tell me.. how exactly does a fan shroud go bad?

It's funny how you won't deny that it does help, but because you are a cheap ass who don't want to spend the money to do the swap you say it's not worth it.
Oh so now at least you are listening... it helps but by such a minor amount that it is a waste of time. As for me being a cheap ass, if I got back half the money I spent on cars when I was young I'd be rich. Perhaps I am trying to spare some people of that.

Oh great, another one of those nutjobs that think japanese cars never have any reliability issues.
Lmao... guys that think domestics are so awesome and think imports are crap are also the same people that wouldn't be caught dead in a import. Therefore they have so much real world knowledge to share on the subject.

It gets hot and humid here in Charlotte from June through September. I end up running the AC most of the time and anything I can do to make less strain on the motor helps. The HP and/or MPG would be a bonus for me. It is not my daily driver and just a truck to do yard work and errands (or for family/neighbors to borrow to haul stuff or move). I like to modify it 'cause it is fun and I want to improve performance. I did it with this trucks predecessor too. I have already added a CAI and changed to a Fastman TB and was entertaining what to do next. I plan on keeping it a long time or until it gets totaled in an accident like its predecessor. The electric fan seemed like good next step to take.

BTW - My daily driver is a 1992 Toyota (with and electric fan).

Thanks for the incite from everyone.

I didn't say imports are crap. I said you're an idiot acting like imports NEVER have any problems. Just keep on digging your hole.

I'm about 75 miles south of you right now in Columbia, and the electric fan made a world of difference for engine cooling and a/c. I can have the a/c on sitting in traffic, and it works way better than it did with the mechanical fan. The only performance difference I notice is when pulling away from stoplights, there's no fan clutch to be engaged. Can't say there's much of any other difference in that aspect though.

Never said the shroud was bad. Read the post. I bought a new fan for my shroud. I have a custom aluminum shroud with a SPAL high performance fan that bolts in using stock mounts.

Did I say they NEVER have problems? Nope... however compared to a import my truck has a horrible disease of some kind. Two power window regulators, front driveshaft, steering shaft.. Now I find out I need new brake hoses, seems that's why my brakes are dragging. Hoses swollen from the inside not allowing pressure to bleed back. A issue I have NEVER heard of before until owning a Dodge. Probably use the same hose supplier as the infamous Caravan PS hoses that blow every month. Steering shaft was joke too, u joint worn out AND seized! Thought my rack was toast, great that it wasn't but that is a common issue too. It's not that they don't know how to make a good vehicle, it's because they pinch pennies so damn hard that almost every component is made of dog turds. My truck only has 140,000km and it's on it's second engine. A far cry from my last vehicle which was a Honda with 370,000km and gave me almost no problems at all in 4 years.

Just keep on digging your hole.
Digging? a hole? LMAO... really what exactly is this hole I am digging and what is it's purpose?

Sorry my bad, I guess I read it as you NEEDED a new shroud because at this point nothing would surprise me. LOL

Well, yeah, that pretty much is what you said. And I've had plenty of weird problems with imports that I've never had with domestics. But I'm not running around complaining about it everywhere, and if that's all you're going to do, go do it somewhere else, because noone here is going to want to help someone who just complains about how everything sucks.

This helps a lot. About 60% of my driving is in town, from light to light. And as fast as Charlotte is growing, that number is going up. I think it would probably be a good upgrade to go with next especially with the summer heat coming soon. One question, did you a junkyard e-fan build or purchase one (like a flex-a-lite)?

Thanks for your comment and your help!

I initially ordered a new depo brand fan for an 87 Taurus 3.8L (very common one to use, dual speed, moves tons of air) and it only lasted about a year. Since then I went and got a used one from a similar year Taurus at the junkyard and it's been working fine for the past few years. Some 80s Volvos have fans with the same motor and blades, but the shroud is a little wider, which was too wide for me.

For the controller I got a Dakota Digital PAC-2700 (I think it's been superseded now) that can handle the dual speeds. I think flex-a-lite makes a couple variable speed ones that people have used too.

Ok time to educate a dumb ass who missed the point of this post. First off if your having that many problems don't blame the truck, blame the previous owner for doing a shit job taking care of it, that is the risk taken with used vehicles. If you bought it new then you were a unlucky person to get one of the few lemons to slip through and you should have followed lemon law protocol. Either way not the trucks fault.

Second if all your going to do is bitch moan and bash then shut up, leave the forum, let a man that is capable of taking of the truck own it and go back to what your used too.

I am on here because I don't know much on dodge trucks and did not want to be restricted to just Chevy's since I know them more than others, I know there are challenges with dodge so I joined to get answers from those who love the truck and have more experience with them but I am not gonna bitch and moan bout them, I'm gonna get my answers, grab my tools and take care of my truck as a MAN should.

Wow, somebody is upset... What sort of driving style you think the previous owner had to screw up the brake hoses from the inside with less than 130,000km? I guess he also had a wicked case of parkinson's disease to wear out the steering shaft like that.

BTW, I found a use for that hole. I used it to put all my prematurely worn out Dodge parts in.

I get irritated easily with stuff like that, especially when this has nothing to do with this given post. I understand having a hard time but there are things that can be blamed on the truck and things that cant. The brake lines, ok yeah ill give you that, faulty manufacturing no ifs ands or butts, that is settled. For the steering, yeah that's cause by wreck less driving, cant tell you much than that but from my experiences with working in different garages, truck owners beat the living hell out of their truck, the ones that don't care will fix only what is needed to sell it, and depending on the dealer will depend on the quality of the vehicle check.

Good example of that is most buy here pay here's, they do horrible checks so issues like what your dealing with can pass through very easily. Bigger dealerships tend to do better jobs and in the very least makes a notice on things the owner can take care of such things, though they still mainly stick to safety and drivability. But that will still depend on the seller if they mention it or not even if it is marked ''as is'' its still a crap shoot.

No matter how you slice it, the vehicle can only be blamed for so much, the previous owner(s) are responsible for the rest but its the current owners job to either set it right or pass it along to someone else and give them the heads up on issues so they know what they are up against while you move on to another vehicle.

BTW my truck is lifted with oversize tires and is no stranger to off road use while still being a daily driver. The main issues I have is alignment, a short somewhere in my reverse light circuit and since my a/c if vacuum controlled I loose my vents at highway speeds. As for worn out parts, just wear and tear.
