This happened today, while is was doing about 50 mph....twice. The truck just shuts off with no warning, then wont start for about 10 min. Anyone have any clue what could cause this?
Thanks

loose wire for the auto shut down relay?

can you give more info as to when it does it? how it sounds? is it a complete shut of, like turning a light off? or does it sputter and die?

check the ASD relay as well right after it happens...it may be getting old and getting hot....when would just shut off and not start right back up this is what it was...but make sure the connections are tight to the relay as well like realdeal said

The engine just competley dies, no sputter or anything. I didnt even feel it, one sec the rpms were around 2000, and the next at 0. Its a complete shutoff of the engine, but all electronics still work. Its sounds just as if you were to turn off your truck on a regular basis. There are also no codes popping up.

Yeah it will still crank, just wont fire up.

I do recall seeing a dark/wet spot on the fire wall right behind the throttle body, but i couldnt figure out what it was.

Ok i just went out and now it wont start at all, it just cranks and cranks cranks. Then my fuel light comes on, but i have a full tank of gas. The check gauges light comes on, and engine light comes on. Still no codes though. Im completly befuddled.

Thanks alot, i went out and fiddled with the relay and it started right up then died about 5 min after, and now wont start again. Think that could be it? And might i add, the odometer now blinks 4 times and then reads "NO BUS" with all my dash lights coming on one by one. PCM Fried?

try switching it with the radiator fan...the one next to it...and check all of you computer connectors to make sure they are tight

I worked on a blazer that when it got hot it wouldn't start after turning it off so a little bit different. We replaced the fuel pump and no more problems. When it won't start to you hear the fuel pump turn on when you turn the key to on. It's a long shot but maybe.

lots of times, its the wiring under the box. where they get fagile after a while, and break apart. my 95 had that happen, where the wire was wore out. one day hit a bump, and BAM, truck shut off like a light bulb.

thats certainly sucks...those parts arent cheap...how did you come to the conclusion that it was the pcm?

its never something cheao is it? that sucks. glad you got it fixed.

btw, to answer your previous question ---there are 3-4 bolts that hold the fuse block onto the fender (i believe)...been a while since i looked at it, unbolt it and then inspect the wires and connections... obviously any that appear bad, id do what i could to fix them.

yeah yall are tellin me, whats even worse is that i had to go through the deaeler to and get a brand new one because i needed to drive 500 miles back home on fri, and this happened weds the same week, so i didnt have the luxury of searching for a used one.

Viper: i firgured it was the pcm because every time i would try and start the truck, the odometer would read "NO BUS" and all my dash lights would come on, but yet i had no codes being thrown? And the only way to get the truck started was to unplug the the three plugs from the PCM and wait 10-15 seconds then plug them back in. The truck would start right up after that and run for about 20 min before it would shut off again, so i bit the bullet and went to spent an arm and a leg for a new PCM. The dak drove all 518 miles without a single hitch, and to my surprise, with the new PCM it gets better mpg and seems a tad bit stronger, may be my imagination though.

Thanks for all yalls help

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!

WTF, damn i got ripped a new one, i went too 3 different dealers and only one had one in stock. I needed the PCM that day too make a 600 mile trip back home later the next morning. Damn i wish i woulda had more time to look for a decently priced one.

You can pick up used PCM off of forums and personnal sales for 250-300. Rebuilt run about 400+. There are a number of stores (Advance Auto etc), sites and ebay that sell rebuilt PCM

My 2000 Durango 5.9 v8 runs then all the sudden dies. It happened once in the driveway. My wife tried to start it after I just turned it off after a 20 minute drive. When it wouldnt start I looked at the dash and it had some code where the mileage usually shows up. I turned the key and moved it back and forth from park to neutral. The mileage showed up again and it started right up. Today I was towing my boat from the lake to home, about a mile. It cut off going through the neighborhood and I tried starting it in neutral while coasting. No luck but I saw the code again, stopped the truck and put it in park. The code went off and mileage showed up again, started right up and drove home. I recently purchased it and the guy told me he had to put in a catalitic converter? I am hoping this is a minor issue, any thoughts???
