I disagree PDR. Some people live in Apartments, installing a loud ass alarm is not allowed as at my apt complex 2 complaints and your out. I also have a truck with tons of money in it, see below in my sig, and much more coming soon, like the SRT hood I just ordered, bed cover, and some other shit. I have well over 5k in tools and other shit in my garage that is worth money or means somthing to me. Having a piece of shit come and and steal any of it, or my truck would be horrible, spending a few hundred bucks on a security system to give me peice of mind is worth it IMO. Everyone does not see eye to eye. Arguing about is not going to change our minds.

A dog wont help me, I work 10 hour shifts and can't take care of it. I want one, but can't do it with my schedule, also my APT is about 50 feet away from my garage outside around the corner. My dog would not hear it or even do any good, If I did have one.

My deductable is $250 that I'm willing to pay to protect my vechicle due to all the work/money put into it. I also have renters insurance (not sure about deductable) but they cover 25k so most of my shit in my garage and apt is covered.

Me and my buddy made a door between our garages, so if he ever had friends over and they decided to come into my garage snooping around I would know, and would be able to confront the person or press charges if they did steal something. I also want to keep an eye on out on my other car that does not get parked in the garage, and who knows maybe my system will catch someone for someone else that gets there shit broken into.

The apt garages also have a door code to allow the apt owners in. Maybe a grounds keeper gets hired on just to scope the area out and get the codes, then I'll have evidence of that also. It's been done before, and within the last 2 months we have had a truck stolen and 2 cars broken into right infront of my garage, if anything my cameras will catch these assholes and put them behind bars.

Having the attitude of "doesn't matter one more will come around" is bullshit, I use to be a theif (I was younger, and not proud of it) but the first thing is word gets out the place is under security monitor and people stop coming around until a dipshit that didn't get the memo pops up and then I bust his ass to. You don't think the guy that stole the truck 1 month ago told his buddies that our apt complex is a cake walk to steal shit? That's probably why we have had more problems. Word is out...

We also have a on call police officer at our apts. If a call goes in at my apt he is first to respond and lives one building over. Would take him less then 2 min to WALK to my garage.

After all the other money I have spent, a security system wouldn't even make a scratch on what I have invested. To me, it's worth it.

To you it's not. We get it.

I disagree PDR.

It's not worth the wear and tear on your keyboard trying to explain reason to him. He's a thickheaded dumbass and nothing you can say will make him see that he's wrong.

In fact, cameras are so ineffective at deterring crime and catching those who do commit offenses that sales are up like 500% over the past few years. :brick:

I lucked out - my neighbour installed cameras on his house, and one of them points right at my driveway. Gotta love it.

Taz he said security system. Not a damn camera.

Even he has his eyes half open. A camera doesn't PREvENt theft. A POS can still jack his shit.

But an all out alarm system to scare, alert and watch is much more effective.

If you want to protect your shit, get something more than a camera system. Plain an simple. Otherwise just watch and give the cops the mug shot. Maybe your stuff wasn't sold yet or in a hide out house to never be found again.

If you insist.

Pretty much every phone has 'ringer ID'.. Not too hard to assign the mailer to a distinct ringer so you know to check it immediately.

Speaking of waste of money.. ADT is $35 a month (with a 3-5 year contract) just for the basic alarm service (Two doors, two windows, one motion, and a keypad). The camera and home control options run $20 a month extra, plus easily $1000 in required extra equipment.

You are aware that installing a premises alarm without a permit is illegal in most jurisdictions, right? And if the police are summoned to an activated alarm and they see that no alarm permit has been issued you get fined, right? And burglar alarms are required to cut off and reset after 5 minutes. Not only that, but this IS an apartment setting, and as such tenants are barred from installing things like alarm systems (aside from the fact that the length of contract required would most likely far exceed the lease), AND having such an alarm that "pisses off your neighbors" would probably be a violation of his lease and grounds for eviction.

Honestly that's what insurance is for. You're paying for it, use it when you need it. Me personally? It would be worth the hassle of dealing with some damage just to have them on camera. Then at least there's a shot at someone identifying them and getting a lowlife scumbag piece of shit off the street for 3-5. And then there's the chance that I could catch them in the act, in which case I have a 12 gauge friend who's just waiting to say hello to them.
I agree to what you say on that. Also, let me add that whenever you catch them on camera, and if you were to find them, you can use that as evidence in court should it be taken to court which more than likely it would be. Id rather have that than to spend money on an alarm system that only goes off AFTER theres been damage done and never catch the person or people that did it

Yeah well, I installed cameras around my property because random stuff started disappearing. Garden lights, decorations, yard tools.. Then a few UPS packages disappeared off my front porch. That's when I put them in. Then I baited the porch with a nice big Newegg box full of newspapers and garbage, and sure enough I caught someone walking up to the porch, grabbing the box, and leaving. I took the video to the police, and they knew she was the meth head down the street. And guess what they found in her house when they arrested her?

But cameras are a waste of money, right?

Say that to my face and we'll see who's the bitch. I'm tired of your shit. You don't know what you're talking about (and this far from the only topic where that's true) so GTFO.
I'll be passing by in December. And I have no problem doing so. You'll be on the ground so quick handcuffed you may just scream my name.

And I do know what I'm talking about. Preventing theft. Not just watching it. You can't tell me an alarm system is not as efficetive as a few cameras that only send you a text. What's to stop a BG from still going forward? If he sees it or doesn't see it.

Come on dude, don't be stupid.

WTF?? Okay, so you rather have cameras so you can record them stealing your shit. Even if they get cought, some If not all your shits missing. And the damage is still done.

So you wouldn't want a alarm system in your home that takes note your window was just busted, instantly calls the police, records it happening andhas a alarm that gives off a sound to tell the bad guy there is an alarm going off, you have three minutes and my neighbors are now looking out their windows...???

Aww don't get all pissy because people other than me are saying you're wrong.. Now again, you've made your (useless) point, and nobody cares, so get lost.

Speaking of rooms.. Let's go by the digital age of cameras that TAz told us about.

Camera pointed on your truck. You have motion detection setup. Your banging your girlfriend at her house. Your phone goes off. ...?

Your phone is on your kitchen counter. Youre upstairs taking a shit. Your phone goes off.

You have your phone on vibrate. Watching a movie n you dont hear it.

Broke your phone at work. Verizon sending you a new one next day.

You're across down or camping, whatever and no cell service...

Cell tower is down, no service.

You passed out drunk.

How can you get these texts?? Too late, your shits gone. But hurry up and call the cops!

wow.. this got alittle out of hand lol:huh:

anyway yah another thing that would be decent idea is that old thread i think that's still sitting around here about cutting one of the wires under the steering column and installing a hidden switch. that way there is no way pretty much to get it going. or at least it would be too much hastle and time at that point. hmmmmm

I'm not pissy. I just know from experience.

"I have cameras up! Please find him and get my stuff back! I had all my tools in that box, worth about 20 grand!"

It's funny how a camera system that sends you a text is more effective than that PLUS some sort of alarm sound and a dedicated reponse in the event you're unable to answer.

Think of it like a smoke alarm. Average home has smoke detectors. They go off, wake you up, your shits half burned.

Have an automated system, the fire department is on their way before the fore takes off with half your shit.

Which system would you rather have?

You already have the transponder key system, so that's pretty much pointless. There's no way to start it without the key, unless they just happen to have a non-security CTM and PCM with them to swap out.

Plus you have your camera system. So now all that needs to happen is hopefully you're not sleeping and can call the cops before they move on an jack your loose items.

How is my point useless? You think a stand alone camera that YOU need to answer to (as if you don't have a life) is more effective than a dedicated, monitored alarm system.

Either way, I know I'm bugging the shit out of you and that's really the only thing keeping me going :D
