well just great, i get out to my truck today.......get in and notice my truck manual is on the floor and the glove box open.....then look and the ignition panel was ripped off and tumbler tampered with. the asshole tried to steal it but once in there didn't know what to do about the sentry system. busted the immobilizer ring around the ignition. the truck starts but shuts off within 2 seconds. im soooooooooo pisssed off. last year around this time i had my truck attempted break in but they couldn't get past the door lol. now this year they get stumped at the ignition. fuck'n asshats. i wish i could catch these fucktards.
worst part is that now i have to pay like 500 bucks for my deductable through insurance. bill to fix all the fucktards damage is like 860 bucks since the imobilizer and column parts were damaged. last year i had to pay 300 deductible from my previous insurance company for the outside repairs. all this comming a month and a half before i move outa this shit hole apartment building into my new house. fuck i thought i was going to make it outa here without any more issues but nope.....add to the list of reasons im leaving. aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

naw, i don't believe so. i mean i could replace some stuff but the immobilizer i have to get from dodge and they have to reprogram the computer with the new one and to my old keys aparently. the truck wouldn't run for more then 2 seconds even with my key in it since the asshats busted the immobilizer. i had to have it towed to dodge since i can't reprogram it anyway without there software. and i don't have time to mess around. i need my truck back working again since its my mode of transportation to work. as it is i have a few people switching things around so i can get to work and back the next few days. sucks i guess. i can't wait to get outa this area im in. for the next few weeks im park'n at my gf's parents once i get the truck back. its a few blocks away but my truck only sits over night on sat and sunday since i work overnights during the week. the thefts seem to only happen during the weekend where i live. Im pretty sure its someone in the building complex doing it but who knows i guess. seems bizare cause i did leave my "truck club" off last night and it was like the first time in a long time i forgot to put it on. i suspect somebody has been watch'n it waiting for me to forget.

That sucks man. I feel you pain and anger. One time I wish I could catch these people (even if its not my stuff) and just hand there ass to them.

My buddy's truck was stolen out of my apt. complex about a month or so ago between 12am-5am. Under a light where I normally park after work. I get home around 2am and probably would have cought them, but I was on vacation. It seems like they where watching it for awhile, and it just so happens the gate cameras where not working that night, since they where replacing them the day before.

They found it 2 nights later about an hour away stripped and on the side of the road. His insurance totalled it out, and he got a 92 5.0 Stang. He had a lifted 4x4 F150 before, figured he would get another truck, but guess not.

By the does your apt complex have any cameras or anything? I'm going to install 3 wireless cameras around my garage when I get my Dakota back. 1 facing the road, 1 facing the parking lot and 1 inside my garage. Going to run a live feed to a 3tb harddrive on my computer that always records. I'll probably try to find some software or sometype of thing that will set my alarm off on my computer if the garage door is opened and cameras are activated.

Your rates won't go up unless 1) it is a collision, and 2) it is over a few thousand dollars.

At least insurance will cover a bit of it. Sucks bad, but it could have been much worse if they got it started!

The amount varies by state (here its $1000) for a liability/collision claim, but yeah for a comprehensive claim your premiums don't go up. Basically comp is for all the things you have absolutely no control over - fire, theft/vandalism/burglary, weather (hail), animal strikes, etc.

And like PDR said look into what lower deductibles would cost you. I have $0 deductible, and it costs like $9 a year more than a $500 deductible.

wtf is up with everyone wanting a camera pointed at their vehicle???

Spend the money to make your truck more secure, and to your insurance rates in the event this happens again. Having a camera pointed at your vehicle MAY help you, AFTER they already fucked your shit up..unless you will watch your truck on a monitor while it's parked..

wtf is up with you shitting on everyone who wants a camera pointed at their truck? Why can't you just let people do what they want to make them feel secure in their property? They were unable to defeat the transponder key system, so honestly what good would additional security products have done? Might've saved him a little bit of damage, but they still would've broken in. Given the fact that car alarms are (and have been for a long time) considered nuisance noise, most people (knowing it's not theirs) wouldn't even bother to look out their window. And there's still a chance that had it been on camera (especially a hidden camera) there would've been something to identify the perp(s) with.

And you don't have to watch it 24/7, there's software (I mentioned one in the other thread) that monitors the image for motion, and upon detection will send a text message or email to your phone. You can then immediately pull up the feed on your phone, and if someone is stealing/breaking into it, you can get the police rolling immediately, rather than 5 hours later when the trail is completely cold.

Yep...

because it's a waste of money.

Your little software with the texting or email feature.. I don't instantly grab my phone like a highschool kid every time I get a text or email. Sometimes it's instantly, 5, 10 min, or even an hour or two before I look at text/email. It is, a great option however.

But regardless instead of getting a dinky camera, get maybe an alarm system for your home?? Something like ADT?? Get cameras AND someone to call the police if you can't respond to your text..

Or an option I thought of, a LOUD ass siren system. It wouldn't be that hard.. say you have a garage. You get a simple Police siren system, with a 200w speaker, a 12v converter and mount it up and into a motion/link break system. Once that shit goes off, holy fuck that's a loud ass wale or whatever siren choice you like best. Not only will it hurt their ears, but reallly piss off your neighbors to call the police.

End of the day, if you're smart with your money, find ways to make them turn around. Not ways to let them do as they wish and chase after them once the damage is done. Because then you have the $$$ invested in your dinky camera system PLUS gotta fix the damage. How long is the response time? Say someone breaks a door window, just as he's unlocking the door, the motion sensor trips. Takes an average 30sec-1min before you get a text message. Lets say you're holding yoru phone. You see the text..takes you about 5 seconds to read the text, and switch over to an app to see the camera. Takes a few seconds to load the app. Then a few more seconds to load the image - lets say 10 seconds to open/view the image on the app. HOLY SHIT!! Close the app, call the police. Response time can vary. Lets say an average of about 6 minutes to respond, ON a good day ;). So you're about 6 min and 45 seconds before the cops show up. Depending on the theif, that's enough time for a snatch an grab. If they want to steal your truck, they'd be cutting it close. But in a suburban neighborhood or back country.. you're really looking at about 10-15min if you're a priority call. Unless a cop lives next door to you, and stopped at home for dinner.

I swear.. it's really not that hard to figure out. I just feel money can be better spent to prevent, not chase.

I didn't get an ADT home system because I have him:

If you insist.

Pretty much every phone has 'ringer ID'.. Not too hard to assign the mailer to a distinct ringer so you know to check it immediately.

But regardless instead of getting a dinky camera, get maybe an alarm system for your home?? Something like ADT?? Get cameras AND someone to call the police if you can't respond to your text..
Speaking of waste of money.. ADT is $35 a month (with a 3-5 year contract) just for the basic alarm service (Two doors, two windows, one motion, and a keypad). The camera and home control options run $20 a month extra, plus easily $1000 in required extra equipment.

You are aware that installing a premises alarm without a permit is illegal in most jurisdictions, right? And if the police are summoned to an activated alarm and they see that no alarm permit has been issued you get fined, right? And burglar alarms are required to cut off and reset after 5 minutes. Not only that, but this IS an apartment setting, and as such tenants are barred from installing things like alarm systems (aside from the fact that the length of contract required would most likely far exceed the lease), AND having such an alarm that "pisses off your neighbors" would probably be a violation of his lease and grounds for eviction.

End of the day, if you're smart with your money, find ways to make them turn around. Not ways to let them do as they wish and chase after them once the damage is done. Because then you have the $$$ invested in your dinky camera system PLUS gotta fix the damage.
Honestly that's what insurance is for. You're paying for it, use it when you need it. Me personally? It would be worth the hassle of dealing with some damage just to have them on camera. Then at least there's a shot at someone identifying them and getting a lowlife scumbag piece of shit off the street for 3-5. And then there's the chance that I could catch them in the act, in which case I have a 12 gauge friend who's just waiting to say hello to them.

You did nothing to prove me wrong..

You simply can't prove that a camera system will prevent the crime. But hey, more power to the people who want to watch their truck get broken into.

I'd just personally rather prevent any damage, rather than having to clean up the mess after words..but at least you get to watch them, and maybe get them thrown in jail for it (while you still have to pay out of pocket to fix your shit)

..also you mention the alarm cutting off after 5min, and such in some areas. What's the cost of the fine? In this users option, is a $100 fine cheaper than $500 to the insurance company? Now if the fine is more than what he has to pay out of pocket, then yes, that could just be throwing yourself into a hole. Either way you're fucked?

It's like talking to a fucking brick wall!

Show me where I said it would prevent the crime. Anyone? Bueller? All I said was it would be worth it to ME (and obviously others feel the same way) to get them on camera. Whoopee, your blaring alarm that pisses off the neighbors just makes them run away. It does nothing to change the fact that they are worthless lowlife scumbag pieces of shit, and unless caught will simply try again somewhere else.

And I wouldn't pay shit out of pocket. Like I said that's what I pay my insurance premiums for, and I have no deductible (if you think I'm lying go back and look at the estimate from when I hit the deer, it says the deductible right on it). So since we're talking 'wasting money', how about you stop paying for comp? You really only have a 1 in 24 chance of your car getting broken into or stolen (this is how insurance companies make money, most people never file a claim), so take the gamble and save the $700 a year (yes, most of my insurance premium is comp). Then if you get hit, you cough it up out of pocket.

Not everyone pays either $50 (like me) out of pocket, or $0 (like you) when an insurance claim is put out.

Didn't the OP say he's gotta pay $500 out of pocket??? So say it happens again. He's now out $500 again (if he doesn't lower it), then at least $500 for a decent camera system, and whatever else he has to fork out (money for rental car, time loss from work, ect). All so he can give the cops a heads up, and they might, MIGHT catch them? Oh, here's a photo of him..maybe you know him??

I don't have a camera system. I don't have a car alarm other than the factory option from Dodge. I will only have to pay $50 out of pocket to any damages. I personally am not going to waste money to watch my truck get fucked up. Because in this world Taz, you take one BG out, and there's another one right behind him to take his spot.

Like I said, it's just a waste of money. Maybe his overall best option is to get a very very low deductible on his insurance. Use the money he'd spend on a camera, to the insurance premium?? At least then, he won't have to complain TOO much. Because a camera will still get him damages to pay for.

Dude, just shut the fuck up. You've made your (useless) point, and have nothing constructive to add to the thread.

Say that to my face and we'll see who's the bitch. I'm tired of your shit. You don't know what you're talking about (and this far from the only topic where that's true) so GTFO.
