Hello everyone.

I am trying to figure out any solutions with my truck. It had a rough idle when I bought it recently, and I bought a new IAC Valve and it has seemed to fix it, until yesterday it has started revving higher around 1100 rpms and then settles down again to normal. Do you think the new IAC is faulty?

My next question. When I first start up the truck and begin to drive, at around 2000 rpms, the truck starts to hesitate, then takes off. It does this until the truck is up to temperature. Then it does not happen again at all when driving. Now I let the truck warm up before driving and it runs fine, only when it is cold does this happen.

I was told that fixing the IAC would help solve the hesitation problem, but has not.

Any ideas on what area I should look to next?

Thanks for any help.

Well, I went ahead an replaced the sparkplugs with the Autolite 3923's. Made a nice difference and the engine sounds healthier too. I did notice some slight oil on one of the plugs. If you are standing in front of the truck, it is on the right side in the back near the firewall, do not know what cylinder. Possible pan leaking?

The idle problem is still there. Looking at Rock Auto for a replacement

There are the two I am looking at getting

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # AC68 $35.79
AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 2H1091 $36.79

Anyone better? Since the price is a dollar different?

Thanks for any help.

Since you already replaced the IAC and spark plugs. have you replaced the cap/rotor or spark plug wires? I mean, those are just normal tune up items. Also you may be better off trying a new TPS before buying another IAC.

I second the TPS. The unsolicited revving is a classic symptom.

His sig says 3.9...

Thanks everyone. Just bought a new TPS from Autozone (Duralast) I will comment back after install and drive. The cap and rotor and wires were done by previous owner before I bought it. He had NGK plugs in too. No store had the Brass cap & rotor, looks like only online.

Most parts stores carry the brass contact caps/rotors. You just have to know what to ask for. From Autozone it's the Duralast Gold. Or the Borg Warner Select at other stores. And the NGK plugs were a better option than the Autocraps you replaced them with.

Thanks, I will see if they have the Duralast Gold. After searching, the Autolite's were a good choice from a lot of people, and the truck runs better.

Took it for spin and the cold start hesistation is gone, but the high idle is still there when I come to a stop. It does settle back down after about 15 seconds. I guess I will try another IAC and hopefully it work.

Any time you put in new parts into the ignition system it will generally run better because you are putting in new parts. NGKs are better plugs than Autolites. The only reason Autolite plugs became so popular was because they used to be cheap, like .99 cents a plug, so guy didn't mind changing them more often. But now there isn't that much of a difference in price between them and other plugs, but because everyone had switched to them they continue to use and recommend them because it's what they are used to using and hearing about. Most people don't like change so will stick to what they know to avoid it. A lot of guys have switched to NGKs and never looked back.

Id check for a vacuum leak if the tps and iac are both new along with the cap and rotor confirmed to be good (no corrosion inside) common vacuum leak is the vacuum caps on the kegger intake, they crack and blow off. Listen for hissing while hood is up at idle. As far as autolites go, i thought that the colder range plug made a grear difference at first. But all it did was mask other problems. Ill never run anything but factory champs in any mopar of mine, unless it wants NGKs.

The cap looks new and was done from previous owner before I bought it, but will check anyway.

The vacuum caps? How many are there? Is there some pics to see them?

I thought I heard some whistling.

The idle stays high for about 15 seconds then settles to normal. It does rev higher while driving too. Since it is a manual, I push in the clutch and the revs are around 1500-2000. I can feel the truck still wanting to go after letting off the gas.

Thanks
