Alright, well brakes not really stopping a whole lot today got me a little worried, esp with winter coming up. I have the 33 in tires on 15 in rims, is there anyway to get a more heavy duty brake? Looking to stop the more rubber faster. Thanks in advance.

When was your last brake job? Checked your brake fluid lately or ever had it changed? As your brakes wear down it will make it harder to stop. Also, you get what you pay for when it comes to pads and shoes. Use good quality ones. A cheap brake job usually means so so quality parts. And big tires and wheels don't help much either.

It's hard to really say. Are you saying there's an obvious problem, or they just don't feel like they used to?

Assuming you live up north, I would highly suggest you crawl up under the truck and visually inspect the hard metal line, I have seen and worked on northern cars with the brake lines completely rusted through due to the salt etc that cars are put through in the northern winters.

Now, if that checks out, things to look at would be the front rubber hoses, they can be old and expanding too much resulting in soft pedal and less stopping power. You may also have a caliper that just isn't performing as it once did. Your rotors and pads could be glazed over, if you have rear disc that could be the case out back too. Or if you have drums, they could also need replacing, along with the cylinders in the back. Hell, you could even a worn out master cylinder.

Depends on how much you want to spend. Either an upgrade to the '03-'04 brakes and rear discs, or I've seen a few posts about bolting on the '05 dual piston front calipers/rotors. Or you always have the Viper brake upgrade.

Hey Hskr, that 05 Caliper deal, is that just a simple rotor, pad and caliper swap? The 05+ is 5 lug right? As where the 97-04 are 6 lug? So, you'd need 05+ up wheels, or just some other wheel that is 5 lug with the right hub diameter?

or buy a quality pad/ rotor set.. change the fluid.. and call it a day. these front heavy trucks wont stop like.. oh a dodge neon.. i think of it like a big T rex trying to do pushups.. it aint gonna happen.

So the rotors and hubs for a 05 won't just bolt on a 97-04? I almost got excited for a minute lol. I've always wanted a tab better braking ability. I guess i will settle for " better" pads and rotors over an actual upgrade, when i do decide to do something.
