anyone know of a relatively inexpensive plain remote start kit? im looking at getting one for my girlfriend for christmas. she has a 2008 Mazda 3 with keyless entry. i have seen kits online that are just remote start and not the whole alarm setup.

thanks guys!

eeehhhhh i bought an "inexpensive model" and tried to wire it up myself..

now i am PRETTY DAM SURE i had it wired correctly and the bastard didnt work..

i would spend the 200 and go to best buy or something have it installed and warranties for a year

I have a security/remote start from Viper and I paid $250 for it which includes install from Best Buy. There was a near-identical model for $200, but the one I got had additional range which I figured could be handy. I may not need to start it from a mile away, but I figure if Im in a shopping center or something where it will block the signal it's more likely to still work.

Umm, I wouldn't let Best Buy or Circuit City or any other chain store anywhere near my truck. Especially after having to fix the hack job they did on my friend's truck. Do you really want a seasonal employee monkeying with your wiring? Twisting and taping wires instead of at the very least using crimps? I didn't think so.
You don't have much choice. Viper won't warranty it unless you use one of their certified installers.

shouldnt be that hard to find someone who is 'verified' by them. im sure they have a link on the site.

For most newer cars, you are better off getting it professionally installed. And it will end up costing more than the advertised price because of the sentry key over ride requirement.
forgot about that, mine cost like 100$ more b/c of the override quip..

I paid $640 Installed, I got a Prestige remote start, alarm, it has a ton of features and a very long range. It cost me more because of the extra equipment to integrate in the computer.

Damn, 4 years ago when I had my Audiovox Prestige alarm installed on my truck it was $430, but I don't have the sentry key or anything special like that. Just the alarm, keyless entry, and remote start. I need to get a new remote for it though because my 2-way paging one I have the display is bad and the range sucks now.

Well, I can tell you never buy an excalibur or anything like that. I got one at a local shop and it is just the alarm, but it sucks cock. I've had it replaced 6 times in 4 months because they just stop working and the brain fries or some shit. The shop fucked me too (reputible shop supposibly BTW, only got it there because I heard how great they were and they are backed by the local newspaper and tv stations and they could get me in the day I wanted it done because my work schedule was one of thhose you never know when youre off type deals) and anyways..... it is junk and they wont take it off and give me a credit. Basically, I have to go back every couple weeks I drive my truck to get a new one installed.

I'm getting a compustar alarm, keyless entry, remote start put in my fiances Honda CR-V this week for $190 out the door. My cousins best friend works at the shop I should have dealt with in the first place with the dakota (only reason i didnt is because they couldnt get me in right away) and he is getting me the deal. And, I've heard great things about compustar. Dont cheap out, lesson learned.
