Just replaced the heater core in my 2000 Durango 5.9. The advice from this forum was great. A LOT of work, but went pretty smooth thanks to all the pictures. When I disconnected the AC lines and removed the condenser there was a neon colored leak detector in the system. Now for the question, I did install a new condenser but was wondering if that leak detector will gum up the AC system without the oil and Freon in there too? I am not sure how effective it is having the system recharged this time of year or if it would be OK to wait till spring and warmer temps to recharge it. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.

If it is just the neon green dye, then it will not harm the system. It is part of the factory charge.

Leak SEALER on the other hand is a contaminant, and will cause problems - especially if left exposed to air. Sealer looks and feels like snot. If it's there it needs to be flushed out.

As far as recharging, you might as well do it now, because it's off-season. Lots of places will be doing pre-season specials in the next few weeks too. Waiting till summer will probably cost you more because of demand.

Also, even if you DON'T recharge, get vacuum pulled on it.

That'll help keep any corrosion from occuring inside the aluminum tubing. And get it ready for charging come the day.

Also, when you use your defrosters, the AC cycles to aid in moisture removal making the defroster much more effective.
