Have a 1998 durango slt 5.2l does anyone know what tranny came in it? It is automatic 3spd with o/d. Thanks in advance it needs replaced 2nd gear appears to be gone.

You sure its a 3 speed??....... im pretty sure that if you have the 318 than you have the 44RE tranny

it has d 1 2 then o/d is a button on the end of the gear shift handle on the steering wheel. If that is helpful. I ask because there is someone selling a supposed rebuilt 42re that i was interested in that would be cheaper than rebuilding the current tranny. The problem sounds like the same as everyone else here seems to have with 1 to 2nd gear. was just trying to save some cash.Should probably get one from aps but then finding someone to install it is the other problem. No one where i live (Tranny shops want to do that either).

·It's still a 4-speed tranny, the reason for the selectable overdrive is towing, but it's really no different then if the tranny had D 3 2 1, just with a button instead of the extra position on the gear shifter.
