For those who don't know, forexfour was somewhat of a pioneer when it came to offroading 2k+ daks. Early days of DD.com, he was a mainstay, first guy I know who did a 2k+ rancho lift, plus a hanson bumper and winch. And, yeah, he's moved on to the jeep world.

Smart guy, I on the other hand went from a 2004TJ to this 2004 Dakota. I needed more space and room for passengers and camping stuff. I am trying to pioneer my way through the Dakota market. Next on the list is SAS.

What does everyone do for the skid plate for their gas tank. I have everything else protected but can't come up with anything that will work for the gas tank. Anyone have any pictures of how they did it?
Thanks

Hey Josh,

Do you have the blue prints for your sliders as well?

My truck already has a huge ass skid plate for the gas tank. and a huge three piece one for the under belly. I am guessing it came stock on the truck but I haven't seen them on other 4x4 Dakotas.

If you look at the pic I have posted, you'll see my custom made rear towhook. Cost me under $25.00 to make, it's been on two different vehicles and through 4 accidents. In one accident, the good ol' tow hook was personally responsible for destroying a '81 Merc. Capri. When the guy rear ended my R/C, the tow hook pierced his grill, left a perfect 2"x2" impression on the radiator as it bent it back, broke it loose from it's mounts (never pierced it though) and shoved it and the fan against the engine block. It sacrificed itself so that the R/C bumper would suffer minimal damage.

Yep, the factory skid plates are heavy guage plastic/fiberglass. While they are not sliders, they will take a massive amount of abuse. I have by mistake, while off-roading slammed my tranny skid plate hard enough on a rock to jar loose several fillings, and it is still 100% intact.

The skid plates are custom made, but created from a drawing made by the member "forexfour" a long time ago. He made a PDF for them that I took to a shop and they cut them out for me exactly as the plans said. I got a deal on them by going to the right place, but was quoted about $250 from most other shops.

They were worth every penny because I have put MANY large rock scratches and dents on them including bending the one for the transfercase pretty good. That's alright though, it has saved my frame and drivetrain from all that abuse.

If you would like, I still have a copy of the PDF file on my computer. I can send it to you via AIM or email if you want. Just let me know.

The sliders are 2x3.5 main (I believe, can't remember) and 2x2 outriggers. They're pretty strong and were mounted well.

can you send em to one more person?? CollinJ89@sbcgloabl.net :mullet:
