I bought a relay intending to learn how to installone for myself. Simple enough, I assume that the switch or control will flip the switch in the relay, turning on whatever it is powering.

That's about all I know. I have been looking around, but I can't find any information on what the different spade connectors do, spcifically. If I knew where to plug in the switch power and ground, what terminal is the ground for the relay and what the accessory plugs into, I'd be in hog heaven...

Anyone?

what are you trying to do with it. are you using it for a starter kill or a swtich for 12 volts it depends on what you are trying to do with what you hook up.

if i remember right 30 and 87 will be connected when the relay is energized from 85 and 86.

so if you are trying to use it as a 12 volt switch you need to hook 12 volts in to 85 and when a ground is applied to 86 it will switch so 30 and 87 are now connected

i might be wrong but i dont have a relay in front of me

hope that helps

Well, I am wanting to have a channel on my alarm close the circuit to the starter to crank the engine. Channel 4 on my system is the trunk release, and it will energize a circuit as long as I hold down the button. I can already remotely turn the accessories on, but I thought it still be cool to be able to start the engine.

I am a member of the12volt.com, but I can't make heads or tails of the descriptions...

you are going to run in to problems by just adding a relay to start your car. i wouldnt recomend it, im an installer and i have never seen it done. you arent going to be able to control the crank time which you will need to adjust to start your car correctly.

here is what you would need to do though

power to 85 and 30. then 87 will need to go to the starter wire.

when you apply a ground to 86 (from your alarms output) it will cause 12 volts to go from 30 through 87, thus providing voltage needed for your car to crank

thats how you should need to wire it up, again i dont think you will be able to do this but if it works please reply id like to know.

for a lot of alarms you can acutally add a remote start option, i know dei sells it for some of their basic alarms, so does audiovox. the dei part is a 561t id recomend it over doing it yourself
