what kinda hp do you want? stock rotating assembly is good up to about 450-500hp at the crank. after that you want to start thinking about forged parts.

forged is A LOT more and on a budget build, thats an issue. so if i was in your shoes i would get forged pistons and try and find a deal on some h-beam rods. if you can get those both for 1000 you have a sweet deal. pistons will be atleast 500.

if you what a 300hp DD you could rebuild the bottom end back to stock, throw heads, cam and intake on it and call it a day. also, r/t heads can be picked up for cheaper than eddies and can easily support 300hp.

Well depends on what yu are building ,,, a good stout street engine or full on strip/street, i went with the forged root, because i scored a good deal with my engine rebuild shop .....H beam will handle more hp that i beam .. forged is a very good way to go if yu are planning or build a stout motor with impressive hp and torque,,,.so some where down the road i do plan on procharger .....so since i do plan on blower i might as well built a good stout bottom end ,,,,,it all depends on how much yu spend or what yu want to build. So build it strong with good parts the first time and yu won`t kick yur own ass for not making it a strong almost bullit-proof bottom-end ,,,, Like my Wifey told me " Its only money, so spend what yu want"

well guys i got the block last night and one bank you can still see the cross hatch in the cylinder walls and they feel smooth but on the other where the head gasket blew its not as pretty, it got hot enough to i guess melt some of the pistons in two cylinders, and score the walls up a little bit but i believe it might be able to be honed out and not have to bore it, and my g/f's dad (who's gonna help me assemble the top end) gave it a good lookin over and he thinks it will be fine,

ok to answer your questions, i would like to be making around 350 to 400 i think thats a reachable goal on a budget, < that has yet to be determined lol.... but i will probably run forged pistons for sure and probably keep the stock crank and use h-beams, i think that will be plenty strong enough, and now that im sorta chompin at the bit to get started i think i will look into getting either some r/t heads or the heads that rhs are producing

how much hp will say 375 at the crank be at the wheels? and yes its gonna be a street truck,

and thanks for all the help on this i really do appreciate it

as for the head he said the machine shop said they were fine but they looked to me to be cracked between the seats, so yea, might take em myself and have them looked over and if they are good sell them if not they can go in the scrap pile

if your going to buy new pistons like you have to, you might as well spend the extra 100 bucks and bore it. the pistons cost the same amount.

id guess 375 is like 300 to the wheels??
