that wont work
best way to tell IMHO is to plug the breather and pull the pcv valve out and put a vacuum gauge on the VC. if there is nothing there your gasket is fine

Have you tried the remove the oil cap method yet?

I am assuming it is non-egr since no one has mentioned it? That is exactly how a faulty egr acts.
EGR ended in '95 and he has a '99 so it's a non-EGR.

if you dont remove the PCV with the oil cap test you will get a 100% failure reading as the PCV is pulling the vacuum you detect.
also, any result will be hamppered by the breather becasue it give the vacuum another point to exit.
so will it work? yes, if you plug the PCV and the breather before you try

That makes sense...all except the removing the breather part. Are you referring to the breather tube going to the airhat?

dwight ill go try it right now, and we'll see what goes down, gimmie 15 minutes and ill post back up. other than that i just got back from oreilleys so tonight i start the tear down

the PCV is a valve right? so at one point it should close right? I'm still a noobie to engines and their systems, but I would think that there is a valve in the PCV, other wise what would be rattling when you shake it to see if it's bad?

got the keg pulled today. the plenum gasket was leaking in 3 places. got the new one on and i'll put it back on tomorrow at lunch, went ahead and put a 180 t-stat in while i had it out as well. now i just need to get an e-fan and controller and i'll be set.

leaking in 3 different spots
Yelp, for sure!

Before you bolt the belly pan back on, if you don't have an aluminum belly pan be sure to lay down a layer of the red high temp rtv, then the gasket, another layer of rtv on top of the gasket and then the belly pan. If you don't, it'll blow again later on.

Also be sure to check the vac port on the intake to make sure it's not clogged up with carbon. If it is, you can use a drill bit to clean it out.
