Is there any difference between a R/T 5.9L 360..and a 360 out of an older dodge ram? like are the heads any different or something like that? i have a bad noise in my engine, so im probably going to be swapping out with a 5.9 i find on craigslist and i was wondering if id need to swap anything out to keep the same HP and stuff.

Thanks,
Norm

You just need to make sure the computer is going to see everything. So, finding a 5.9L out of a similar body would probably be the best idea.

Or just take whatever sensors off your truck that the new motor doesn't have. IDK what Rob means by computer needs to see everything, but pretty much all these motors are the same, but look it over before you put it in to make sure all sensors look to be in ok shape.

well, one im looking at is going to be quite a lot of work, and idk how the computer would react. keep in mind my dad is a experienced mechanic lol and will be the one doing most of this..

.i found an old 89 or so ram with a 360 in it with he claimed 56k orig miles. but its carb'd..so i was going to take everything off of my engine now to make it so this new engine is fuel injected, which my dad said was possible, but truely a pain. but i imagine well worth it for an engine with so few miles:huh:

my question really is, is the R/T's 5.9 any different from this, or any other 5.9 out there:wave: because im going to have my engine on hand, whatever is diff, i would just swap out :banana2:

Thanks,
norm

NOPE.
Not the same.
Magnum heads are different. Pushrods and their location is different, the magnum has a roller cam with different profiles.
See allpar.com.

Find a 360 out of a newer truck.
