I ran mine on the towing setting for a while. It seemed to have a bit more bottom end than the performance setting did, and there's quite a few folks on here that say the towing setting yields better 1/4 mile times. I don't know for sure, but it seems that the power comes on stronger in the performance setting, but it may be due to the sacrifice of the power down low. I realize that this doesn't really answer your question, but it's my experience based on driving the autobahns everyday, so that equates to a lot of time spent over 100 mph (and in my case, it gets about 1 mpg more mileage).

It seems to make more torque down low in the towing/performance setting. Install the performance setting and then do a couple runs from a standstill. Next change the setting to towing/ performance and do the same thing. I think you will see the vehicle is more responsive from a standstill with the towing/ performance setting. Not sure on HP and torque difference though. Hope this helps
It does! Now if I get pinging that's bad, right, and how prodominant will the pingging be? Will I notice it right away at all speeds or only on highway runs?
use the proper grade gas...but the pinging will usually occur under heavy loads and lower rpms.

You should be able to hear it anywhere, but sometimes it can be faint. IF you think it's pingging but your not sure, drive down a street with buildings really close to the road, the sound should bounce off the buildings and back to you.

It only pingged for me when I stomped the gas and accelreated as hard as she would go. It didn't matter if I was in the city or cruisin on the highway, pretty much whenever you put the truck under heavy load

And yes pingging is bad.....it's detonation...from what I understand it's caused by the spark plug fireing alittle to late, when the exhaust valve is opening. That's why it sounds like it's comming from the back of the engine or underneith

Hope that's right

I never tried running the controller without 93 octane in mine. In most places Super Unleaded is what .20 more per gallon than Regular? So if you purchased 20 gallons of gas you would spend an extra 4.00 for Super. Is an extra 4.00 a tank worth the extra performance?? To me it is so I don't even worry about it ;)

detonation is from a hot spot in the combustion chamber igniting the air/ fuel mixture before it should....usually way before top dead center

I took my 01 Durango to the dealer to have them check for drivability updates. They found 7 that needed to be done...They were all performance updates engine and trans. Dodge does not tell the dealer what they are only that they are drivability updates.
I noticed trans shifting diffs. and higher revs. It now twists to 5300..
I just installed my Superchips programmer and set it on the towing/performance setting with 89 in the tank and not one ping...WOW And let me tell you what a difference… it now revs. to 5500, plenty of low-end snap and true firm shifts...I have taken the manual fan and clutch off, installed a fresh air kit and exhaust.
I couldn’t be happier. I will have to see how the mileage is.It was getting 13 around town running it hard and 16+ mpg on the highway... :drive:

I have heard that you can get faster on the towing but I also think that there is a reason that there is a difference between the two settings (I haven't tried either yet).
On a side note, is there a way to remove the speed limiter without removing the rev limiter, whenever I try to remove the speed limiter it says that the rev limiter is also removed and it won't let me change it.
Thanks and sorry for the hijack,
Stuart

Mine asks me seperately......I can raise 1 or the other...or both

stuart, u have the 4.7, right? it shouldnt even alow u to move the rev limiter. my tuner flashes "change rev limit not available". do custom settings i beleive and it should ask u what you wanna change :biggthump

My 2001 D with the 4.7 lets me adjust the speed limiter, but not the rev limiter. I also get detonation with mine when I run the performance setting, even with 93 octane. I have to run it on the 87 setting with 93 octane to get no detonation. According to their sites, Superchips and the Hypertech tuners are really meant for bone stock engines with no mods, thats why they can ping when you add other intake/exhaust mods.

Why would superchips cause detontnation?

more advanced timing with either improper octane or just cheap gas..plus the intake can get pretty hot even on an N/A engine....i managed to run my superchips on performance mode with 87 octane and some NOS brand offraod fuel additive
