Ok so here's the poop.. my dango hood has the paint peeling off it a little at a time. right now there is about 40% of the actual glossy paint left. The primer is still on the hood and it's not begun to rust. It's been doing this for a while and I'm going to get it painted here when I get my uncle to inspect it. Has anyone else had this problem. I fear that this wasn't the original paint job and it was probably put on shittily by maaco or something.

Hey haven't seen you in like a year
I'm around over with the Outlaw Whores. Every time I post in a real thread, dickheads like Warren stalk me. I'm a wanted man.

So yeah, I had this happen BAD on my last Dak. Very common issue with Dodge and Chrysler paint. I have heard it is a clear coat issue, not necessarily the paint. Then again, I have heard it is a primer issue where the paint and clear doesn't want to stick to it. Either way. I think there was a period of time in there where Ford used the same paint supplier and had the same problems for a bit, but not as bad and not as many years.

Paint peeling problems are most common on silver or blue vehicles, regardless of manufacturer. The early 90's was a a primer problem. The primer set up too hard and slick for the top coats to adhere. I think the modern issues are wear related: thin paint wearing out. That's why wax helps. The only issue I've had with the '01 is the cab roof is getting thin in spots.

It was horrible on my 2000 Black Dak (only hood and cab). It was the clear coat peeling off, none of the paint came off or wore through to expose the primer. But it certainly was made much worse by the sun beating down on the black. And I waxed the crap out of it, to no avail. I had it in the garage for the first several months I owned it and it wasn't too bad, then we moved and it had to be in the sun and it got 10 times worse.

Good news is this: On my 2000 Patriot Blue Dak, there is NOTHING.....yet. Also nothing on the Platinum Durango, however the hood has been repainted (twice I think), so that shouldn't go anywhere.

This is the reason my Blue dakota ended up becoming my Orange dakota. Had to strip it right down to the steel. Figured if it is going to be a complete repaint might as well have some fun and change the colour as well.

My roof is peeling a bit....... Someday my white truck will become plum crazy.....and it might get a gen4 bed too.....LOL

depends on the shop and quality job they do.. the more you pay more than likely the better job you'll get but what sucks ass is that it wont be cheap.

I picked up a 99 sport v8 5.2 with 34k everything is mint but the yellow paint is losing it's clear coat. I want to change the color but get that factory look, or as close as possible. I guess Ill just have to save my penny's.....

My front fenders are getting spotty..and my hood has spots too....as well as the roof. Of course this shows up particularly well on a black truck...:censored: I was quoted $250 to redo both front fenders and I have an aftermarket cowl induction hood that I am getting painted.. The roof may get rattle canned since you can't see it..
