How much boost can I SAFELY run before needing to go meth injection or intercooled?

Ill be running a forged 408 (cast crank though) and tuning with SCT PRP. I had planned on doing 16psi, but then realized most (if not all) guys running that much were intercooled, meth injected, or both. Could I get away with 16psi and no metch/intercooler or am I pushing my luck?

I would deff go intercooled for 16psi. I was running 11 psi non intercooled, but a moderately safe tune (less power.)

How about you go intercooled and start with low boost, then once you get the hang of it start getting a little higher. Lets not blow up another motor billy.:funny:

Im trying not to! Thats why Im asking questions before hand rather then blow it up... again. :nono: :jester:

Well. 10psi on my old sr20det would be "low boost," But that engine is designed for it. Simple fact is these motors suck.:stirthepo I believe 10psi if pretty safe on these motors with the stock stuff if you know what your doing.

You cant go wrong with intercooling. More power on lower boost is always a plus. I figure with going belt less, and going intercooled, I can probably pull another 100hp on the same amount of boost.

Wheres good places to look into an intercooler? Which would be better..air to air or air to water?

I got my intercooler from www.frozenboost.com

There are numerous places to get them from, just make sure its a bar and plate, the tanks are actually welded, and that they do pressure check them. There are some really cheap ones out there that are gonna blow apart under boost, and there are some really expensive ones that are what I have with a name stamped on them.

I prefer air-air because I like having full potential on the street without having to touch anything. Air-Water works really well if you drag race, as you can fill the tank with ice and get below ambient temp.

Meth Injection in my opinion is sort of a bandaid for not running race fuel, and having hot air. It does work though. My freinds evo dropped from 11.8 to 11.5 running the meth. But he could have got there with a better intercooler, better gas, and some tuning.
 
i would definitely invest in a main cap girdle!! cheap insurance since you are gonna have it all out anyways! also, a blow off valve upgrade couldnt hurt, and will score you some chicks, hahahaha :funny:
Ask me about blow off valves. Ive used a tial, HKS SSQV, RFL, and now I got a Blitz:banana2:

I am going to run 12lbs before I figure out an intercooler. I will make a tune with the 16lb and see how it works on the dyno. espcially here in dallas, when it's 110 degrees outside, I will prob run 6lbs, and keep a tune on my cpu and load it when needed.
 
I would definatly do the BOV, definatly the meth, and figure out a intercooler. Meth will help with detonation and lower the a/f by about a point. intercooler will keep the intake charge cooler before it gets to the meth.
its very apparent you do PLENTY of meth.:nana:
