I wonder if it could be spliced in to a factory connector so it looks OEM.

I've been running my factory electric fan without the clutch fan for the past two weeks in city traffic without an issue. The heat has been 90+ with the a/c running full blast. It will spike to about 210 and come back down when the fan kicks on.

Yea, I bet the oem fan would be better if it had a shroud. My Durango runs like that but gets unhappy about it sometimes.

And sure you can splice and wire like factory, just need to use the proper amp fuse. And need to make sure the ga. wire is ok.

You want the OEM Ford fan.....

from a wrecking yard, it's got the good motor. The Chinese knock off fans on e-bay and Advance are not the same quality. Mine was installed over 2 years now and was several years old when I got it from the wrecker. Runs smooth and quiet. :mullet:

I have been interested in doing this as well to my 99 durango, I assume that a 1996 ford tbird will have a similar fan setup as the mk?

Rather stay away from a "Ford" part lol. :jester: I know it's not made by Ford most likely just kidding...

$60 for a NEW electric fan that works can't go wrong, it's also kind of low-pro compared to the lincoln ones.

"It's a matter of function, price and looks. And for $60, it's a damn good fan from what I can gather. It's nearly a 100% perfect fit for 00'+ radiators (just went and measured mine, and this fan would fit perfectly over it). And $60 beats $300 for a flex-a-lite."

Exactly! I got mine for $55 delivered from Rock Auto. It fit snug as a bug, cools great and I don't have any charging problems.

As for the amp draw, just find out what amp alt is on an HHR and if yours is close to or higher, you will be ok. So far, I have not heard anyone say they have a problem with it.

Since it's starting to cool over here in NYC, I think I'll take the ole' clutch fan off and buy myself this HHR fan.

How did you get it for $55 shipped? I forget the discount code. I'll check the rockauto vendor forum.

...but you're OK with a CHEVY part?!:jester:

whatever works, is what works.
Yes, rather have a Chevy part than a Ford part...plus the fan is made by TYC and they make good shit.

so what all do u have to have for this to work, i have a 98 dak. thats about to be back on the road for my dd, and for the price u cant beat plus i really dont want the hassle of having to take the clutch fan off again

"so what all do u have to have for this to work".

I did mine on a 94 so Im not 100% sure of what needs to be done on the Gen III. But it should be a bolt in deal...maybe a few grinding/cutting mods for clearance.

ok so the fan has a controller and everything already on it or are u using it with a manual switch?
