P0456 (M) Evap Leak Monitor Small Leak Detected Leak has been detected in the evaporative system.

I am new to the board and looking for a little help. I just purchased an 02 Durango, and the check engine light came on after a couple of days. I checked it and found this code in the odometer. I don't know a whole lot about vehicles, and was wondering what this was, if it is serious, and if I need to take it in. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, I may try that. 455 says it is a large leak detected, so maybe cap doesn't fit right?

P0456

There are two vacuum hoses under the hood on the driver side. They go from the purge solenoid outboard of the battery, under the Power Distribution Center and inboard of the brake master cylinder. One of the hoses goes to the throttle body. The other hose goes down the front of the firewall to the vapor canister. Check these hoses for deterioration, particularly the one that goes to the vapor canister. There is a test fitting in this hose (near the brake reservoir) and that was where I found the hose bad on my '01 CC. If no problems there, check the hoses on the vapor canister. I recently had one of the fittings break off but that set a "major leak" code. I have the 4.7 and I'm not sure if the hose routing is the same configuration for other engines.

had code 455 on mine. the vac. line going to the purge fitting was split and dried out. what kind of cheap hoses are these? i have stuff from a 68 chevelle that looks better than what's on my truck and it's over 30 yrs. old! and the truck only has 37,000 miles.

That was it

DICKC - Thanks for the great info. It was the hose going to the test fitting that had the small crack. Easy to fix and I am back in shape.
