I just installed the Moroso coolant overflow bottle. I filled it up to the tip. I had the truck on now to warm up, see if there is any leaks. The engien temperature reaches maybe 190 degrees and the radiator hose that connects to the water pump pops off. A lot of coolant leaves the hose and the water pump. I just snapped the hose back on, I'm not sure if I should start it up? Did I put too much coolant? There is coolant left, but probably not a lot.

Here is the hose popped off.

Here is the new bottle installed.

What should I do? Put more coolant?

I have a 180 t stat, I'm going to go bolt it on right now.

Maybe you had an air pocket? Sometimes that can cause weird things. That hose shouldnt have ever popped off though! How is the clamp, is it broken?, is it tight, is it in the right spot?

Does that overflow bottle vent? If not, you had no air in your system and when the engine warmed up, the coolant expanded with nowhere to go. The overflow bottle is there to take this expansion as it warms up and return it when the engine cools. Maybe try not so much in the bottle.

You guys won't believe this...look at the second picture. See the valve at the bottom? It was closed. When the engien got hot the coolant went to the overflow bottle, but it stopped at the hose. Therefore, the coolant backed up at the water pump and caused the rise in pressure which caused the hose to pop off with a nice boom. :woot:

Don't you hate when that happens? You'll be workin' o nyour truck, you d oeverythign perfectly, except you forget one bolt, have an extra bolt, or missing something small. Then you go crazy trying to figure it out and then you realize that it was so simple.

It runs fine now. I drained the coolant system and refilled it. It runs a little cooler now. I just need to mod my electric fan.

I need to see more pics of that 99' D 403...dayum :mullet:
