Hello everyone. I am thinking about becoming a returning Dakota owner. I am looking at a 2005 Dakota club cab with bedliner and about 22,000 miles.

I need to give a bit of background. I am changing jobs in a few weeks. I have not had a personal vehicle for almost 12 yrs(work supplied during that time). At the beginning of that 12yr period I had a sold a 97 Dakota ext cab LT(which I loved), when I started the current job in 97.

So, now I need a vehicle. I know the dealer very well and the truck looks pretty darn good. But, I am a little leary of driving a 2wd truck again. I am wondering if a good set of snow tires makes a difference?

It won't be a big deal now, but next winter. I am buying the truck out right so I won't be selling it anytime soon.

Thanks for any info you can give.

:welcomesign: from a fellow Minnesotan.

welcome, I also live in mn and prior to this year I drove my 2wd ram with all season radials and 400lbs of weight in the bed all winter for 5 years. Hell when I grew up you didn't have a choice everything was rwd. You just have to drive carefully.:drive:
good luck!

Welcome. If I lived in MN, Id have a 4x4. Just depends on what you want, a fast street queen, or piece of mind with a slower truck that will go almost anywhere.

Welcome from a former Minnesotan!

Lived in MN for 40 yrs, in the country, Little Falls between St
Cloud & Brainerd, had 4wd's for about 10 yrs.
Course that was 20 yrs ago and in the country.

Followed a job to SE MO, lived in town, no more 4wd's.

Then last year rolled around and my "next" job turned out to
be SE MN, so back to 4wd's. (I work all over the country on
big construction projects). Looked at Dakotas, found that
comparable Durango's in the $6k to $8 range were about
$1k cheaper. Had had both a full size Ramcharger and a 3/4T
before and for what I do now the enclosed Durango made
more sense - mostly hauling household stuff and work stuff
like computers and tools around - so picked up a real nice
2k SLT pretty much loaded at a good price. Really like it.
Everything I haul, incl a stash of emergency winter gear and
clothes, is protected from weather and secure.

I left the MN job for a longer term, better job near KC MO,
so glad I've got the 4wd. As much ice as snow here. One thng
I did tho was to convert it from part time 4wd to full time like
my Ramcharger was. Works out so much better on roads with
alternating dry and slick spots - you're always in 4wd so no
messing with shifting in/out and no surprises.

Just my $.02 :)

Good luck with whatever you decide.

welcome to the site. I know a lot of people that drive 2 wheel drive trucks in the snow. As long as you know what you are doing you will be fine....
