I'm going to get a new e-fan in the next few weeks, this one will have a shroud. So my question is can you let the shroud sit on the radiator surface or are you suppose to put something between them? I'm thinking about getting the taurus or MarkVIII fan.

Im not so much worried about the fan melting as i am the fan rubbing a whole in the radiator

Simply biasing the fan to the exit hose of the radiator allows the truck to run much cooler with the a/c blasting.

The brackets were tigged by a friend of mine. Work of art!

I have a similar style fan, but i have the zip ties through the radiator thing going on, i don't really like it cause when it kicks on, it shakes the whole truck. Thats why i was concerned with rubbing. So if i get this new fan and mount it up to the factory shroud mounts, i shouldn't have a problem with it rubbing a whole in the radiator?

That new rad was purchased because I tried to use those cheap ass pull ties on my original radiator. DO NOT USE THOSE!!!!! (youll soon regret it!) You can make your own brackets or buy them to attach to the radiator shroud mounting points.
Most fans have a mounting system/tab that comes in the box. Like this

Heres some brackets from Derale. I like this setup alot for auxillary cooling. 8amp draw tops! 1400cfm.

I thought you had to have well over 2000 cfm for a v8?

You need over 3000 cfm for a v8 with a/c. I was going to add those 2 smaller fans as an auxillary setup but the single fan is working flawlessly so I didnt bother.
When I switch to the 3" thick radiator.. i add that setup.

ok. I think im going to go with a Mark VIII fan. I read that it pulls 100Amps when starting and 42 on high. I want to use the two speeds so what kind of controller should i use that can handle this beast?

100amps? There is a wiring diagram for the dual speed. Honestly in a stock truck it aint worth the time or trouble.
Make sure you wire the fan with at least 10 guage to handle the load.

k ill give it a try, im not sure on the amp ratings on the controller.

I have a 180 thermo, im thinking i should program the low setting about 195, what do you think?

Nevermind i see the spal only handles 30amps so i could only use low, so i guess i have to figure out how to wire this all custom like...
