My buddy just bought a Crew cab dakota with a 5.9. What is the difference between his motor, and my 5.9 in my r/t? just wondering if there were any differences.

there is no difference in the motor, the only thing that makes an R/T any different, is the suspension, wheels, and overall vehicle package...

when it comes down to it, you'll still beat his ass in a race though, cause yours is lighter, and the R/T's came with a 3.92 gear ratio... so you already have 2 advantages

the only differance is that the R/T has a whopping 5hp more, 250 hp vs. 245 in the Durango or quad cab
Is that on paper or actual numbers? Reguardless the R/T weighs less.

The Durango 5.9 SLT was listed at 245. The 00 Durango R/T was listed at 250. All Durango R/Ts came with a different muffler. From 00 to around 10/01, the Durango R/T had a unique PCM (not the Mopar) that required premimum fuel. After 10/01, the Durango R/T used the std. SLT PCM. The listed HP rating was not changed with the PCM change. It has been debated how much HP if anything the R/T PCM was worth.

R/T 360 is the same, only difference is stock exhaust which is 5hp more. However the cc and rc are lighter then the qc and durango, so that makes a major difference. Yes CC R/T's weight less then durangos alone... Durangos are beasts in all aspescts versusu a truck. Bad aerodynamics and just plain heavier!

I have a 99 Rango w/ the 5.9l and they are the same except for the muffler and "tuned" computer in the r/t that required premium fuel, all for 5 extra hp, big deal. I don't know why they say the r/t weighs less, It seems like the same weight to me??

The Durango is definately a beast when it comes to weight, but I have smoked many 5.3L Chevy trucks!!! You cant beat the brute power of the 360!!

I hear that not all unleaded dodge 360's are the same. My buddy says his Ram has the High Output version of the 360 in his truck which is rated at 300 crank HP. Not sure if this is true of not, just putting it out there. I guess the difference is with the heads?

i've never heard of a "high putput" version. if there was such a thing the R/T most certainly would have had it.

There is no such thing as a HO 360 in any Dodge truck.

I was about to suggest that your buddy's HO5.9 is most likely a diesel! Not apples to apples.
