i did a search and didn't really find what i was looking for... basically i have a 95 with a 3.9L with a 5spd tranny (2wd). i'm wanting to put an automatic transmission in it and later down the road (realistically probably 2-3 months) put a 318 in it...
my first question: the transmission i'm looking at is out of a 99 r/t... would it be a direct bolt in replacement? 2) would it still bolt right up to the 318 once i swap it in? 3) like i said, my truck has a 5sp, so putting an automatic in it's place would mean i would have to put the shifter for the automatic in the floor where the 5sp shifter used to be correct? what would this involve?
now i'm only 19 so i'm not trying to act like i know everything, i know good and well that i don't (hence why i'm posting questions lol)... i have a friend willing to help me with the swap who is very mechanically inclined but he's a ford man so yeah... that's why i'm asking my questions here... thanks in advance for any help guys.

Do yourself a favor.. buy a truck already equipped with a v8 & auto.
It will make your life much easier.

trust me i would love to but have you tried to get a loan lately? the truck i have is already paid for so i have to work with what i have... do you say that because of the work involved or money involved?

Uh.. if you peek around you can get a Gen 2 V8 with an auto for pretty cheap. Like way less than $2,000.
I dont understand the mindset of trying to beat a new path when the avenue is well paved with signs and lights everywhere???

As for loans... well my bank always asks me if I want one...lol. But then not everyone has the balance/credit score I have so IDK what to tell ya.

Shoot.. ill sell you mine with headers, tb, and mopar PCM for $1600.

turbo is right. the amount of money you would spend modding your truck to be what is already done from the factory, is rediculas.

besides, that 99 trans wont work in a 95, uless you whore all the computer and electrical parts from the 99. its not just a simple unbolt, and bolt back in deal.

ok yeah like i said i would really like to buy a newer truck that is already equipped like i want it but especially with me only being 19, it's really hard for me to get a loan...
as far as the swap, i would even consider just swapping out the transmission and forget about the v8 because this 5spd is killing me in stop and go city traffic. would it be possible and relatively cheap and easier to just get an auto tranny out of gen 2 that was bolted to a 3.9? i really appreciate you guys help btw.

lets see. 2ooo-2400 for a new trans, 1000 for a used one....300+ for a new compter for an auto truck, maybe 100-145.oo for a used oen from said truck.

taking out the time needed to unbolt it all and delete the clutch pedal assembly, and also get a different sterring colum for the shift indicator (or parts for it which means total tear down to put that crap in there..,,)


2500.00 or so later, you can buy a 95-96 dakota, auto...with a 3.9L. just my .02

it would be alot easier for you to mod price wise, to mod a truck that is already done, and you want to keep it the way the factory made it, versus swapping out stuff altogether to change the trucks format.

look around dude, im sure you will find something. you could always sell yours then buy the auto truck.

ok gotcha... i really didn't know that it would cost that much. i just looked on here for a used tranny and found that one for about 350 plus shipping and i guess got my hopes up... i see where you guys are coming from though because that is alot of money to spend just to put an automatic tranny in. thanks for the help guys, i'm glad i asked ya'll. :mullet:

no problem. the numbers i used are generic though. but i feel they are close interpretations of actual cost.

i bet if you look around, you can find somehting relatively taken care of, and wont cost to much.

yeah i've found a few trucks that i would really love to have and are very affordable but i just can't get a loan because of my age (no credit)... i want a full size truck and like i said i can really afford the payments, i just can't borrow the money
