coolant temp sensor location??

I want to add a new mechanical water temp gauge in my 95. I am tired of the c-h gauge on the dash... I bought a basic gauge at autozone, found a mounting place where the ash tray was. I am going to run the sensor through the firewall next. I figured the easiest way to tap into something is to take out the old sensor, since it really won't matter to much... So does anyone know which sensor it is for sure?? I see one right next to the thermostat and another in the front on the intake. But which one should I pull?? Or if anyone else has a better place to place sensor...

You will have 2 sensors up there....one with 1 wire, the other will have 2 wires...the one with 2 wires is for the ECM, don't take that one out..take out the one with only the one wire to it...that one is for the temp gauge

thanks for the info... i was kind of thinking that was the case... it made sense that the one wire went to the gauge only...

I have an 88 dakota 3.9 and when I went to install the temp sensor for the mechanical temp gauge, the hole is too small to put the sensor in. what do I do for that?

Spend 50 cents and buy an adaptor. :huh:

no other port up there with a plug in it you could put it in?

Port is too small, can't adapter it. I simply made a T fitting in the heater hose with some 1/2" NPT hardware.
