I know many guys on here have helped me out with the sub enclosure idea. Now I went to BB tonight and checked out the sub I bought from them(Kenwood) and the amp they had it hooked up to(Alpine)
So here are the items for my set up. I need to know if the amp is good enough for the sub and will it hit hard when I need it to, but not always a consistent hard hit?
This Sub

And this amp

With a Alpine HU just not sure which one. Possible Alpine cda-9886

Ported boxes usually have more output. They can also hit deeper bass tones depending on its tuning. A sealed box also has good output but there kinda limited on how low they can go, bass response is also tighter in most cases while a good ported box has more BOOM.

is the amp and sub a good setup with each other?

The box all depends on what you want... SQ sound quality or SPL which is full truck shaking bass....Im going to be building a box for my truck tuned to 34HZ which will shake the shit out of everything...
If you want good sound quality, go with a sealed box..
If you want all bass, go with a slot ported box...

Yeah, thats a good combo. All checks out to me.

I am running the same amp and it is awesome:mullet:, but it is best paired with a 2 ohm resistance sub (or subs) so you can get the full 500w instead of only 300w at 4 ohms.

The sub you bought is 4 ohm resistance and rated at 350w RMS which is pretty close to the amp specs so it should still sound pretty good together, but it would hit a bit harder if your sub had a 2 ohm resistance (I am running a single 12" JBL GTO1204D sub with dual 4 ohm voice coils that gives a 2 ohms resitance when wired in parallel and it hits very hard).

Since you already bought the sub, you might want to find an amp that puts out a bit more power at 4 ohms (but this might cost a bit more than the Alpine amp), or you could buy the alpine and always add another of same 12" sub later to take advantage of the full amp power.

It really depends on your budget and how loud you want it to hit, but it is hard to beat the power for the price of that Alpine amp.

Thats a shallow mount sub though, its not designed to handle 500w. Espicially with how little excursion it would have compared to your JBL sub.

His sub is 4 ohms though so it will only draw 300w from the amp not 500w and they should sound good together.

Plus he always has the option of adding another 12" 4ohm sub later and wiring the 2 subs in parallel to take advantage of the amp 500w capabilty at 2 ohms.

What if I take the sub back? But I would rather not lol but I can, I think. So if I keep the sun and get that alpine It will sound good but I wont get the full potential your saying?

BTW my dad has this amp from his old boat

Thats not his though lol

No:forehead:, stick with first stuff you posted, then wire it in parallel when you get a second sub like EZ P says. I'm just sayin, 500w is overkill for that sub by itself. Now if you want to use the amp at its full potential for one shallow mount sub, JL Audio's TW5 12" sub would do ya right. Only drawback is it might empty your wallet more than you want it to:jester:

Thing is I only want one sub, I don't need 2!

You wont be disappointed with your current choice.

I would just keep the sub you have.

That Infinity sub you referenced has the right 2 ohm resistance but only handles 300w RMS so it would run the possiblity of blowing the sub by throwing 500w at it.

Good deal on the amp by the way.
