So since we've taken ownership of the Durango the temp sits between 130-210 from reading it seems as if it should be higher up near 210 . The heat is Luke warm also my first impression from driving the GM WBody cars ( gtp regal gs) is I ran a colder thermostat and seen the same thing happen , could this be what's going on with the Durango ? Or is it something else?

The truck runs good idles fine no noticeable issues

Help would be greatly appreciated

My truck warms up to exactly the same as your is displayed, and I have no issues what so ever. You probably have a 180 thermostat.

but to put your mind at ease, look at your coolant dipstick (rad cap) do you see a lot of sludge? If so, a nice rad flush should put your mind at ease.

So just went outside with the truck sitting all day I looked at both tanks the radiator and the tank to the driver side which has a yellow cap, when I pull the cap off it has a pull tab with a "dipstick" nothing showed on the dipstick.. Could the be my problem LMFAO I'm guessing that's the reserve tank

Added coolant, still lacking heat.. Now if I have the, coolant flushed by flushing it would that include the heater core? I'm thinking about bringing it to a local "Quick-Lube" to have the coolant flushed that's why I was wondering .

I am battling the same issue brother. Lack of heat and I have literally replaced the entire heating and cooling system..........literally every hose, wire, core, line, overflow tank, pump, t-stat, and had the engine block flushed for possible clogs. I am still trying to figure it out.

Did a coolant flush today since we had some nicer weather and I'm extremely happy to say that I now have heat. Aside from my fiancé complaining that I shouldn't use the outside faucet during the writer, things went well. The coolant however coming from the core was darker brown while the rest seemed more orange/green, is that normal?

Hows your bypass hose ? My was pretty squishy and was leaking a touch >.< After a replace my temp seems to go up almost to 100 if I get off the highway and idle :p

Well the orange and green could be from someone mixing dexcool with the normal coolant.

The dark brown however, kind of makes me believe you have either buildup inside or some heavy resistance hindering the flow causing your coolant to boil...

When your engine is warmed up how hot is the coolant pipe off the top of the rad?

How did you flush it ? Pulled the drain and used a hose ?

I'd suggest either using a flush kit, or as I do, go to my local lube shop and have them power flush it ;)

My 5.9 runs at the same place temp hand wise. You probably has a stopped up heater core, or something obstructing flow to/in it. You should try to back-flush it, and report back.

That was probably the problem. A clog.

I put a hose T on the hose coming from the lower end of the firewall and flushed it that way with the upper radiator hose off as well. Everything went fairly well aside from the dirty looking coolant coming out for the first few seconds. Heat works good so unless something changes I'm going to save the $ , locally to do a coolant flush it runs between $70-$115 and i did it for under $20 soo I can't complain
