It really depends... Go to John Mercedes of Southeast Performance... He can hook you up for a good price... Pricing really depends on if you're going for a full-blown build or just adding the extra stroke and over-bore to the block and keeping stock bolt-ons... If you were to go that route, you can probably get it around 4K or so... But that's with stock heads, valve-train, etc...

man i was thinking about 4
4K, you can forget John M. or KfC performance for that price.Just do some research and keep yo eyes open for deals there were a set of R/T heads for sale on here. There is aplace on ebay selling a complete forged stroker kit for a good price. Also talk to a machine shop you trust they can get kits at good prices.Fleamarket mkotors ride out pretty good, trust me :D

Well, John quoted me 4K on the short block assembly and I figured he could slap all the stock junk back on top and just upgrade that later... But ya, Forget KRC all together.. Nothing I've heard was good about them.

But ya, if you have the time and patience eBay (aka Fleamarket parts lol) would be the best idea.. That's what I'm doing and it's saving me some money in the end and will perform just as good.

Im assuming thats turn key and paying retail for everything....lol.

There was no indication of whether you wanted a forged bottom end or not.
Id say the rotating assembly will run ya about $1,000 for cast parts. $1400 for machine work, assembly, & misc parts. Prepped heads another $2500.

For $13k.... Id better be running low 10s in my truck.:D

8 grand, about 350 to the wheels. About 13 grand and like 550 to the wheels. Krcperformance.com, or there are some other vendors at the bottom of the main page.

Short block assembly,is that a built short block or just parts to build your own? If thats a complete shortblock built and balanced ready for heads, cam and intake then that is a good price. Also is that forged or cast crank?

That was a rough estimate for the complete short block assembly. I BELIEVE it was for a forged bottom but I'm not sure... I really had my heart set on building it myself but he sure is a good salesman.. twice he's almost convinced me to just let him build it lol. But that was me giving in to the lazy side of things..

But ya, that was for a complete short block ready to be put to work! I have an email with the exact prices and parts etc if you really want to know.

First off you have to figure out if you're going cast or forged. If you plan to run boost or spray, go forged. If you know without a doubt that you'll never ever put a bottle or boost on it, then go cast. Shop around, there are lots of kits out there, or you can source the parts individually and have them balanced. I went with a kit from Ohio Crankshaft, $2195 fully balanced with rings/bearings, forged crank, forged h-beams and forged JE pistons (it's a 4.1" crank, so it makes a 418 with a normal 4.030" overbore). Mine was $100 on top of that because I upgraded to Hellfire rings. Before settling on this kit, I did some shopping and there are kits available on ebay for under $2K, just depends on what you plan to do with it and what parts you want. But you should be able to do a shortblock for $3-4k. If you're leaving everything else the same, your main gains are going to be in torque thanks to the extra stroke. But obviously with better heads/cam, etc. you will see bigger gains. And don't neglect the exhaust, strokers gotta breathe :eek:nethumb:

I picked my magnum block up for $300 but I think that may be considered a little steep... (Thought I was getting a deal at the time....)..

LA blocks tend to be around $100-150 and I'd just go with an LA block anyways but I tend to go for the more difficult routes.

"NOTE: A Core Charge is required on all sales. Cores returned to Rebuilt Crate Engines must be the exact same as the engine ordered. When you return your rebuildable core to Rebuilt Crate Engine, your Core Charges will be refunded."

Where did you buy your short block and was it new or used? Also why were you going to go with the LA?

I got a used 360 from a local yard, complete (heads and all) for 200.00
140ish on it and it smoked. but im doing a 426 stroker with it so i only needed the block and a few odds and ends off the old motor.
That's going to be a bad ass motor:mullet: How much more notching do you have to do for the 426 vs the 408? Just out of curiosity?

For the rebulit site, you can send in a 318 or a 360 motor and get a refund. They used FORGED internals. I think I just fryed a ring and mine and am definatly going to get a motor from these guys. The guy said he sells about 4 blocks a month and the customers run anywhere from 16lbs of boost to 250 shots and have no problems. And custom ground cam! WOW! Also, the price on the website is as if you wern't going to send in a core, not a bad deal.
