i have a 2001 dakota, 4.7l, auto, awd, slt...seems my temp gauge is hovering a tad over dead center, with ac on, 90* out today..im pretty sure it has the stock 195 in it now...will changing to a 180 t-stat screw with computer settings, or cause any kind of pinging? i do get a lot of heat in winter, so im thinking i should be ok with that part of it....whats the proper way to burp air out after im done also....thanks..

I have a 180 t-stat on my '01. It will help somewhat to reduce pinging. The temps will always rise at slow speeds with the A/C on, at least on mine it does. I have the clutch fan removed, and use a 10" pusher fan for backup. The stock '01 electric fan kicks in at 210 degrees without the A/C. If your clutch fan is still the original, keep in mind they do wear out. With the engine off (key out), wiggle the fan blade fore and aft to see if it has any play/wobble.

well I never had my 03 even reach half way in 100 heat and with the ac on. only time I had it go over half way was when I was going up a steep road up on the blue ridge moutains. other than that never. might just need to flush your coolaint system as it might help with the heat prob you have.

The housing is on the bottom of the engine, but it is not hard to get to. I am actually going to be putting a 180 in over the next few days, as soon as it gets here. I wanna get rid of my pinging with the Superchips on the performance setting. Hoping this helps. Jet has one listed now for the 4.7. I used a Jet in my Jeep when I had it, and I thought it was one of the best made stats i've ever used.
