I took my R/T to the dealer because it had a bad clunk in the rear end when I go through the gears, mostly after I accelerate hard and let off the gas right after I hit a new gear, mostly 2nd. I thought it was the u-joint but they said they where fine, after an 800.00 bill they said my posi is wore out and it would cost an additional 2,100 to fix it. I was wondering what posi to go with and how hard it is to do it yourself. And around the amount of time it takes to change it, if I’m going to replace it I’m definitely going to upgrade to a performance posi. Any help would be GREAT!

seems kind of high. Dealers always ask more than independants. See if there is a drive train shop and have them do it. When I had mine replaced dealer wanted $1500 but I got it done for $750 at a drive train place. I don't think it is something for do it your selfers. You have to pull axles out a little and set it right so the gears mesh right.

i had my rear differential and everything to go along with it replaced under warranty but it would have been like 1800 with parts+labor at my dealer.

they are a very good shop, if u were closer id put it in for $200.00 and garrentee it

Yeah just do it yourself, it's seriously not that hard.. Just make sure you can measure backlash.. leave your pinion gear in place, and you won't have to worry about that.. if you don't have the tool then you can use the gear wear marks to guess on the lash and get pretty close.. other then that its simple.

Drain the diff, pull off the cover, take off your tires, push the axles in, remove the circlips, pull the axles out, unbolt the carrier holders, pull out your diff, unbolt ring gear from posi, bolt to new posi, install.
