Trip Computer

Another Question for you guys:

Has anyone tried adding the trip computer to your Dakota? I'm talking about the unit that sits up near the visors and gives Compass and Temperature info, as well as Gas Mileage, DTE, etc.

My previous Chrysler had it, and I find myself missing it...

There are conversion kit that pop up on ebay some times...comes with the overhead console and apparently all the wireing and instructions on how to make it work

Only way I know of unless you try to wire it up yourself

Shouldn't be hard to add it. My Dak had it from the factory.

lots of people have done this. think theres a write up on dakota usa website. been thinking about doing this when and if I get the funds. best way is to look in the junk yards for the same year or close to it as it will have all the wires and so on. as what I hear most daks are prewired for this so it makes it easier. but not all are. I have to look at mine and see.

Unless it was ordered from the factory for the overhead computer, the wiring is NOT there above the headliner. But no matter what options it was ordered with the over head can be wired up and will work just fine. I put one in my '00 from my '99. You will probably need to find a '01" with the overhead since I'm not sure if that changed with the interior or not.

some of the daks are wired for the computer even though didnt come with it. a few peopel that I seen do this said the wiring was already in there and hooked up. all they had to do was connect the wires to it.

This is the first I have heard of the wires being there. My '00 was pretty much fully loaded except for the overhead trip computer and I still had to run the wires up there.

Their there, just behind the fusebox is where they stop, you just have to run them up further.
