I'm kicking around trying a 4.7 to 5.9 swap because I've been told there isn't a whole lot of better horsepower options with this engine unless you but a blower on it. And even then the numbers are just not that impressive compared to the corresponding out lay of cash. All wisdom appreciated.

What I'd really like is something closer to or over 400hp. I just can't seem to find a documentation about how to get any kind of performance out of these. It seems like it should be possible. It also seems like the blowers are way too expensive. The crazy thing is I can buy a junked 00 - 03 with a 5.9 for about a grand, freshen that engine up to the numbers I'd like and still have about a grand left over compared to buying a bolt on supercharger.

What kind of numbers are you looking for? A good performance chip and cold air intake should get you to about 310-330hp
Programmer and cai won't get you near that hp. Stock is 235 and with a programmer and cai should get you maybe 250-260 at the flywheel.

From wickipedia

The 4.7-liter version was the first of this family, appearing in the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The displacement is 4.7 L; 286.7 cu in (4,698 cc) with a bore and a stroke of 3.66 in Ă— 3.405 in (93.0 mm Ă— 86.5 mm). It has a cast iron block and aluminum heads with two valves per cylinder. It uses chain-driven Single overhead camshafts, one in each head. It originally produced 235 hp (175 kW) and 295 lbâ‹…ft (400 Nâ‹…m) of torque. The 4.7 L V8 is available with four speed and five speed automatic transmissions and a 5 speed manual transmission.

Ok, in theory. How can you get the most hp out of a 4.7 with a blower? And I'm talking bulletproof. It just seems that there isn't anyone with that knowledge. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm looking for EVERYthing you can do to that engine.

The 4.7 to 5.9 swap is not easy at all and alot of parts will not work. You would want a donor vehicle because the brackets are not even close for the drive belt. I already looked down this road. For the time and effort go 5.7 Hemi or what I would personally do is build up your current 4.7. You need to speak with Nick at airram. He has high flow heads and cams on his website. The 4.7 is capable of alot more than people give credit for. He also has a supercharger kit in the works hell it may be ready by now. He helped me alot with my build and knows everything there is to know about the 4.7.
Hope that helps.

I'm hoping to do the '08+ swap someday. My '02 has 230K+ and still running "strong" so no big rush, just had to rebuild front axle and driveshafts. Gotta refill my change jar. The '08 out of a Ram is around 100hp stock over mine when it was fresh, and better mpg. Just look at exhaust ports.

I have a 2008 Dakota I bought brand new in Winnipeg. Got to test out the 4.7 on my 700km road trip home. Awesome road trip. But I had a feeling there was room for improvement.

Immediately when I got it home, I made some changes.

I got rid of the stock air box and resonator and installed a K&N Cold air intake

I installed a magnaflow dual cat back exhaust,

Throttle body spacer (snake oil I think)

Super chips tuner

Those addons really woke this engine up.

I would guess I’m up to around 350hp now.

I am considering an under drive pulley for additional HP but unsure about potential cooling issues.

Right now, I am doing an e-fan conversion which could potentially free up an additional 5-10hp.

I’m using an oem fan out of a jeep. I may start a thread on it if there isn’t one already.

The 4.7 is a very strong and reliable engine. I Never had a problem. (Changed water pump once) and The 08 redesign are even better.

And they produce the best v8 sound IMO.

That is very interesting. Other than their (not there) and you're (not your) grammar mistakes all over I'm very interested. What I'd really like to see is some dyno pulls with all the parts they provide for a 4.7. But this is good info and man I hope they continue on. That page was last updated 13 months ago.

Yeah that 2008+ 4.7 is a beast. Have you ever ran it down the 1/4 mile?
