I just bought a 2002 Dakota 4.7 Quad cab 2wd, the truck is a cherry, real good shape and only has 93k miles. Since I bought the truck last week when I reverse out of my garage, which is up hill, the truck acts like its slipping and I can hear the solenoid making weird noises, it only does it when it's cold, ideas.

First double check the tranny fluid level when it is at operating temps. Low fluid can cause all kinds of strange problems. If that checks out, then start looking into the solenoid issue. The transmission is electronically controlled, so before condemning the solenoids double check the wiring going to them to make sure they are getting the correct signals etc. Good luck...

There is a bulletin out for my truck, I guess the trans filters leak and sucks air into the system or allows the fluid to drain back when its cold, I am considering doing the Transgo HD2 kit with Royal purple Max ATF, while I have it apart I will check all the o-ring's.

Finally took it too the Dodge dealership, they said it failed the low/reverse clutch pack pressure check, he said it was probably a bad seal somewhere but not the filters because it would be doing it in low and reverse, not just reverse. I asked what it was going to cost and he said they would end up replacing the low/reverse clutch pack after they found the pressure problem, so pretty much the price of a rebuilt trans. I was immediately pissed, so today I figured I had nothing to loose so I removed the pan and valve body. I didn't find any loose or cracked filters but I did find a cracked low/reverse clutch pack seal. Stupid $3.00 seal may have burned up the clutch pack, I went ahead and ordered the 45RFE dual filter kit for it, the Royal Purple Max ATF and the Trans-N-Go HD2 shift kit, tomorrow I will call the Stealership and order the three seals for the clutch packs, I figure this is a cheap gamble aside from a new transmission!
