Like i said i almost brought that truck but i found one in ohio that is a sport standard cab with the 318.i paid trucking company $400 to pick it up.i never brought anything without driving or looking at it but i took a chance.it has crane cam,headers,3" exhaust, msd igniton and 3.55 gears i paid $2900 for it.one day the truck was on E i put 5 dollors of gas in it which was a little over 2 gallons.i went 43 miles before i put gas in it.i could maybe go a couple more miles but didnt want to ran out of gas.im guessing it gets like 18 to 20 miles to the gallon believe it or not.go ahead and do the thing you are talking about and you will see the gas mileage increase from the factory 13mpg.

Update on my '92 CC

Got an update for anyone interested. The body shop (Peach Auto, kind of like Maaco) called Thursday and said that they will know $100 off my paint job if I take the truck in this week. Taking her in this coming Thursday. Going to go all black and just have the truck retitled. I got an all steel tool box to go on the truck and was hoping to have it ready for paint at the same time, but I just don't have the time. I'll get some paint at one of the car stores around and try to match as best as possible. Also installed new headlights yesterday...what a pain! Haynes manual was absolutely useless (again!). Got a dealership manual coming in soon. I'll post pics of the paint job when done if anyone is interested.

Forgive me for sounding dumb, but I do have a question since I am new to the Dakotas...besides the cosmetic differences, what are the differences between a regular Dakota and a Dakota Sport?

Thanks!

PS: Dropped mine off this morning for painting. Hopefully will have it back by Saturday.

There are some minor difference but its all cosmetic and some trim differences.
Thanks, and BTW, your's looks great. I have a feeling after the paint job that there won't be much done to mine...got 2 kids and my wife's car payment, along with figuring out how to pay for physical therapy after my ACL surgery next month.

Got it back last night. Not a bad paint job for $440, but now I know about dents I didn't know I had. Will try to post pics in the next day or two (before and after). I'd call it a 10ft paint job (looks really good, but at about 10 ft. you start noticing things). For some reason, the shop painted the drivers door handle and the tailgate handle, but didn't paint the passenger side door handle. I'm going to take it back by today and see if I can get them to do something about it. Told the guys at work today that I now need to get the Sport trim on it and make it all black! They told me I need more chrome. Be on the lookout for pics.

well yeah, i lowered the truck with spindles before i had the wheels. i guess thats where i missed the grinding...haha
Well when I was at stock height with the R/T's they hit the upper control arm. Now it has 2'' spindles and hits the lower control arms. There plenty of grinding for me.

New Guy

I've had my 96 Dakota since it was new. Bought it with a 6-stick. Now its running a 412 stroker motor and a "Dr Evil" Maximum Evil 518 trans. We're still in the tuning stages but after the last tune, we were getting about 355 hp at the tires. A new set of GS MotorSports headers are on the way then we'll re-tune it. When everything is finally set up the way we want it, we're figuring on about 375 or so at the tires. Should be done by spring. Heres the list...

91 Sport 5.2L

I have a 91 Sport with a 5.2 liter engine. It has been in the family since day one and I am hoping to make a project vehicle out of it. I should be takeing it off the road this summer with 93K miles on it. Has anyone on here done a complete rebuild on their gen II Dak? This will definitely be a learning experience for me. Any tips and advice will be greatly apprecieted. My first task will probably be to take it down to the frame and get that painted. I haven't any rust on the outside of the pickup, just highly worn paint job, but the frame has some surface rust building on it.

I am BRAND NEW here, but I have about 5 years of experience with the 3.9 in a HEAVY '96 extended cab 4x4 SLT with topper. Power has not been a big problem. It has an automatic and seems to be geared just right. You might consider a lower rear end, but it tends to eat up gas. I only get around 11 mpg in town! Ouch! It improves to about 18 on trips.

The only mod I made is a K&N filter, and it does seem to breathe easier. I've also found these engines to be sensitive to having the sparkplugs gapped correctly (use the underhood number) and clean.

If you're getting good gas mileage, you might need to consider lower gearing. What is your mileage like now?

Howdy everybody

I pulled my clutch fan off. You have to get a specialized wrench that fits the nut that connects it to your water pump. I did it when i was replacin my water pump, so I had to take it off in the first place.

Im new here and this is my first post. i have a 1994 Dakota Sport V6 auto 4X2 with 109,000 miles on it.

I also am a member of the Dodgetruck world Md chapter.
