I've failed to yield any success with my truck. The costs have been mounting in both time and money. I don't know enough about this thing to get it running. since it is technicly my wife's, she is going to sell it while I'm away on military duty. I could probably get it road worthy again if I didn't have three kids, a job, reserve duty, and did have some actual help. All the people who I've put motors in for or fixed their cars for are always "busy". I've benched this trans too many times to want to pull it again.
Here what I can't figure out. The trans is good in another truck, but won't shift past 2nd in mine. The tranfer will put the thing in nuetral in 4h &4l. There are too many replaced wires all over the underside of this thing for me to possibly trace. What a nightmare!! I thought I could get it going good enough to haul wood with, then work from there. But 8 months into it and all I can do is pull stuf around my land.
I think it will end up as scrap, which saddens me. Mostly because I've built whole Mustangs from parts and failed with a whole vehicle!!! Sorry, but my wife is eyeballing an S-10 4x4 as a replacement because it works now, and I owned one for years. I hate 2.8's!!!!!
Please don't ban me.

get a 4.3 and we wont, the 2.8s have a rod hanging out the oil pan from factory better have some spare bearings in the glove box your gonna need them

yes .. do not get the 2.8, they are the worst engine ever built in history! my first truck was an s-10 with the 2.8, bought it and about a month later a piston was bent and the motor blew. anyways man, good luck in whatever you do and sorry you couldn't get ti running right.

Sorry to hear about your lack of success. OF course my parents have had a 2.8 5-speed powered S-15 since the early 90's.. it has to have close to 150k on it by now..I guess not ALL the 2.8's were total s#@tboxes.

I had a 2.8 in my '89 Isuzu Trooper. It had 185,000 miles of abuse before a rod was hangin outta the pan.

After that, a 3.1L was rebuilt to replace it. huzzah!

Good luck with the S10, I know how you feel about the truck not working right...I've been there myself.
