I'm a newbie and tried to post this in the wheels/tires section but the site won't let me so I'll post here.

This question has probably been asked a dozen times so forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse.

My '99 Durango came with 15" wheels and I'd like to go to the 16" stock wheel for slightly bigger rubber and a better-looking stance. Will this require recalibrating the speedometer, computer, or anything else?

Depends on what size the new tires will be. If you have say.. a 31x10.50R15 now and you go to a P265/70R16, then the diameters are close enough that it won't screw up the speedometer.. but if you go to say a 33x12.50R16.5" [note this requires 16.5" rims] or LT305/70R16, then yes your speedometer will then be slow and the PCM will have to be recalibrated.

I may be doing it backwards then because I didn't really have a plan for the tire size yet, but my wife's 2002 Durango has the 16" rims and looks much better on just the stock-size tires. The wheelwells just look too big compared to the tires I'm using (I don't know the size).

I assume the 2002 uses a 16" rim and not a 16.5", right?

Yeah stock would be 16".. if you want a 33 on stock 16's you'd use the LT305/70R16. I think that's the biggest you can go without a body lift.

Sorry to revive this but I want to be clear as I have the pretty much the same question as the OP. A 16 inch wheel from another Durango will fit on the 99? or is it a year specific thing? Any 16 inch that fits Dodge?

Dodge used a 6x114.3 lug pattern on the Dakota and Durango. It's the same as the Nissan 6 lug. The stock optional wheel and tire combo is 16x8 wheel with 265/70/16s. They will bolt on to any year Dak/Dur not sure about clearance on a 2 wheel drive.

Looks way better than mine. Mine look like donuts in the big ass wheel wells.
Same here; I'd like to get this done over the course of the year because I'm gonna need them for next winter with the amount of driving I'll be doing between regular driving to and from work or picking up kids, plus going back to school again (and we all know that any snow storm always catches Denver by surprise).

No worries about reviving an interesting thread. I've been scolded before for doing just that on other forums and I think it's BS.

I may hit the boneyard next weekend if the weather's okay. I need a handful of lug nuts and four center caps for my mother-in-law's Durango.

Any Dakota/Durango wheel will fit ANY 93-04 Dakota and ANY 98-03 Durango with a small exception. 15" wheels will not fit on the 03-04 Dakota or 03 Durango because of the bigger front brakes.

Also, the 6 lug viper wheels will also fit on our dakotas/durangos (I recommend using the front wheels for best look and this is just my personal opinion), and Nissan Pathfinder will also fit on our trucks as well.
