Got an 03 Dakota. At 185k and it's been superb and zero issues. For last 12 months or so...sometimes only at 10 mph or lower I get this clicking noise. Doesn't go away when brakes are applied...only when speed up. Hasn't gotten worse and it only happens sometimes. Taken it to mechanic and of course the sound goes away at that time. I mainly notocie it in parking garage when I first get going it seems. Drives me batty but it hasn't gotten any worse.

Suggestions?

do you feel it in the steering wheel or the floor?

maybe the rear brakes then. have you replaced in the last 10k miles?

that might be what it is. my friend has the same thing in his jeep. it clicks too. he can feel it though

check your front shaft at the transfercase for any play up down or opposite twist between the rzeppa and the shaft, look for a rip in the boot also, clicking is usually the balls fighting the race since the races are now greaseless

.

Does the clicking rate vary with speed or is it constant? Just for the hell of it inspect the tire treads very carefully.. A rock wedged into the tread will make a clicking sound each time it hits the pavement, as will a screw head..

I was thinking CV also but if that were the case it should be gradually getting worse and causing vibration as the races get eaten up..

It's constant.doesn't change with brakes applied and always goes away at 10 mph or more.

that doesn't happen as quickly as you might think, it takes lots of ignoring the noise to totally waste the rzeppa..
The beginning stages are a faint clicking

Oh I know, I had a bad one. But over the course of a year it definitely got noticeably worse.
