Where can I get replacement letters for cheap? OEM please..

Pics?

They're $70 per door if you want the real deal ones. You can get them from LMC Truck. I've never tried but you might give them a call and see if they have random letters from damaged sets that they would sell individually if there's only a couple bad ones.

XBX those look nice, but just too bold for me.

I'll try LMC - I'm just going to replace all of them. But I may peel everything off them and keep them gray. May look cool and match

Consider debadging your Durango of all of that text. I slowly did that to mine, and after I finished I've really come to like it. I was originally considering getting some aftermarket or Gen 4 Dakota lettering, but I'm going to keep it like it is. If some other driver doesn't know my truck is a Dakota then that's their problem not mine! :)

THat's what I plan on doing.. taking off all the letters first, see how I like it, then go from there.

$70 for two sets.. so $140 for the doors, tailgate and a spare for whatever at LMC

Thats a ton of money for some stickers IMHO. To each their own I suppose.

I debadged my Durango, as my chrome was peeling too, and plan to go to a guy I know and get them made as a vinyl decal in the Dodge font. I'm going for the rugged 'off road' look, and fully debadged is too sporty looking for me. $15 for all doors and the tailgate.

Perfect!!

I'm going to try it.. Much much cheaper.

Now to remove the chrome..

I used a heat gun and some GoofOff and it worked great! Just sweep the heat gun in circular motions around the lettering for about 30-40 seconds and then using something plastic with a stiff and thin edge, scrape the lettering off. What will happen often is the gel-like letting will flake off from the adhesive, leaving all the adhesive on the car. You need to press pretty hard to get it to come off all the way, and then go over it with the goof off once you removed as much as you can. You'll have to be very liberal with the goof off, so buy a whole new can to be safe. My paint was fine, and wasn't harmed by the goof off or the heat gun. I did clean it and wax the area shortly afterwards though. I also recommend wearing gloves, since the doors will get very very hot from the heat gun and you will burn yourself.

Yeah I've done that before. Them heat guns get hot!

Dumb vaguely-related question time, but are there any laws mandating the presence of lettering on a vehicle or is it really nothing but marketing on the part of the manufacturer? I could easily see cops wanting to have this information readily visible for identification purposes.

No laws at all. Badging is 100% cosmetic. The cop will know what you're driving when he runs your license plate. Most criminals aren't going to steal a plate that matches the vehicle they're driving (which is probably also stolen). So if you're driving a red Dakota and the plate is registered to a yellow Pinto, he's going to know something's up without needing to see badging.
