So I've done all the maintenance that I wanted to do to my 2001 Quad Cab 4x4 4.7 and added some mods, my question is what next? Currently I have a K&N FIPK, Dwight throttle body, USP underdrive crank pulley, Dynomax catback exhaust, and a Superchips programmer (I got it free from a friend, Thanks Jon). I have also changed all the fluids over to synthetic. I'm only looking to spend around $500 on additional mods. What do you guys think would be the most bang for my buck. Truck is my daily driver and will be used to tow my 91 to the track so mods need to have torque in mind.

Thanks,
Mike S.

I would go with the 08 intake, or atleast the 03-07 intake. AirRam just put one of those up for sale

Torque converter and get back to me ASAP on whether you like it or not, lol.

If you can get your hands on a set of HO cams I would say that would be a good route for torque. And I don't have an 08 intake yet so I can't elaborate on that. I hear good things though.:mullet:

I would have said cams, but who knows when they will be available next

Towing, I would say gear swap, especially if you have 3.55's.

Suuuurrrrreeeee, you're just mad you didn't say it first. :p

Since he is a 4x4 gears would not be an option for around $500 bucks. Now if he was a 2wd they would be nice for the low end.:D

Thanks for the replies. So what's the story with the intake? What kind of improvements will it make? Is it a straight bolt on? What about the cams? How do they affect idle and general drivability? This is my daily driver I'm not looking for a rough idle of something that runs hot. I've heard that the stock cats and Y-pipe are restrictive? Would there be any gains there on a otherwise stock motor?

Thanks guys,
Mike S.

HO cams and 08 intake should add about 20-25hp and the 08 intake will bolt down directly to the motor, but you'll need the adapter plates so your TB will mount up. The cams wont' affect the drive abality at all, it will make is sound like they never were in there. it doesn't give it any lope or anything, larger cams will

I just bolted on a 2003 intake with a Dwight TB and absolutely love it. I started a thread about the process and someone posted some VERY helpful pictures to help you through it.

I noticed you did not put headers on yet, you can get a good set for $500 easy or less(even stainless steel) but not painted, I see you live in Indiana.

From what I've read I didn't think the headers were really worth it at the level I'm currently at. I did pick up an 04 intake from ebay for 80 shipped. I plan to install it and then start looking for some HO cams. Then hopefully call it quits on the mods.

I'm in Clarksville,IN just across the Ohio river from Louisville,KY.

Thanks for all the replys,
Mike

know you said you got a super chip programmer but should think about a SCT one. will be alot better and if you get unlimited tunes you can get custom tunes for your truck with the mods you have. to me thats alot better than SC

Yeah I will probably go with a SCT tuner once I find some HO cams and get them installed. I got my 04 intake installed and I am very happy with the performance of the truck. I will definately be finished with performance mods after the HO cams and SCT tune. This is just a daily driver, I have a 10 second truck in my 91 and will be driving my friends malibu this coming year also as he just had back surgery.

Thanks to all that gave input,
Mike

We're talking about intake manifolds right? How much do they cost and what kind of improvement will I be seeing?
You can get a new 03-07 intake from AirRam for $249.00 right now. I know he had a used one for sale on here a few days ago, but don't know if he sold it yet. If you would do a larger TB at the same time you'll notice a good improvement in accerlation and will also help out in mpg, if you keep you're foot out of it
