do you guys recommend having the transmission flushed when getting the fluid replaced. I Heard that can damage your transmission causing you to get a new one.

Has the vehicle been properly maintained? That would be the determining factor for me. I have done it with good results, but I have also changed the filters and dropped the pan too, so it isn't the same fluid that has been in there since 2002...

If you change your transmission fluid on a regular schedule and your not having problems with it you should be fine. The reason people say it could damage it is beacuse most people never flush the fluid until they have a problem.

depending on the mileage and services its had to the tranny id flush it if its been done alot. i wouldnt try it if its high mileage and never been done because that can cause it to go. ive dropped the pan on mine every year or 30k miles... resently flushed last year with great results @ 110k mi.

ive checked to see if the previous owner ever did it and theres no record its only on 85k miles. and never had it flushed. so just having the filter and dropping the pan would be ok?

another question. anyone ever had it done at jiffy lube?

just drop the pan and change the filter. DO NOT go to jiffy lube they use cheap products the pan will leak.(I was a store manager for 3 Years)

I had an older car flushed @ JL (my son worked there), but I don't know if I'd trust the kids there to do it right or to use the proper fluid.

I had my A518 fluid and filter changed at the dealer for $170. A flush @ JL isn't that much less.

A tranny breaking because you changed fluid is a wives' tale. It was getting ready to go anyway.

That car I had flushed had 131k miles on it. I sold it to my son and he put a bunch of miles on it before the tranny went. I guess I shouldn't have it flushed, right?

The reason you don't want to flush a trans that hasn't been properly maintained is that it can stir up contaminants and force them into the valve body which can cause a lot of headaches. As for the step by step, it is a very easy but messy project, you will want a large catch pan. Just remove all but the front few bolts, just loosen the front few a few turns. Pry the pan down from the back (with a catch pan under it) and let it drain a bit then drop the pan the rest of the way. Remove and replace the filter(s). If 42,44, or 46RE adjust the bands. Put on a new gasket or silicone and reinstall the pan. Fill then check while running in neutral.

Flsuhign the tranny will cause it no harm unless the tranny is already going bad. It will not force debris into the valve body unless you don't have a filter on when it is done or the idiots hook the machine up backwards and back flush it.
