I just bought an '01 reg cab Dakota with the 2.5L and 5 speed for my son. It's only got 55K miles. Overall the truck runs well, it has more power than I thought such a heavy truck with a 4 banger would have.

However it's got a pretty big surging problem when accelerating hard over 3000 RPM or so. If you've got your foot buried in the throttle, it bucks and surges as if you were pushing on and off the throttle.

Anyone know what may cause this? Throttle position sensor?

So far all I have done is put in a new air filter and put some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank.

Thanks in advance!

Not trying to be an ass, but had you searched before you posted you would have seen about 4 million posts giving the same answer. Glad you got it fixed, but as you hinted above... search is your friend.

Well for someone not trying to be an ass, you're doing a great job of it.

I did do a search. I didn't get "about 4 million posts" but I did get a dozen or so that were vaguely similar to my situation. I went ahead and posted because on the boards that I frequent most people simply skip over threads they feel are redundant. Given the amount of time since I originally posted, I assume most people on this board feel the same. But hey, at least you were able to correct somebody. I assume you don't get to be correct in your life very often.
