When I moved to New Jersey, I met this kid named Larry. We became pretty tight over the last year and we hang out and offroad a lot. I found a few months ago that he has an older brother in Iraq named Matt. He's in the Army. Apparently Matt is pretty wild, and Matt has a Jeep. For the past 3 months all Larry has talked about is his older brother coming home and all the stupid stuff his brother has done in the past. I was pretty pumped to meet his brother. So a few weeks ago his brother Matt arrived back in NJ. The first thing he did was go out in his Jeep. Within 2 hours he has the Jeep buried up to the doors. Him and his friends spend until 10 that night trying to dig it out and pull it out with Jeeps. Itonly sinks further.
10:30PM Me and Larry are in my truck doing some offroading and Larry gets a call from big bro. They can't get the Jeep out and want to know if anybody he knows has a truck with enough balls to pull him out. My name comes up and we offer to come pull him out he says he has a date and wants to wait until the next morning. So he asks me to wake up before school to come get him out. I have to be at school before 7:15. So I set my alarm for 4:30
4:30AM Head up and the truck and pick up Larry and Matt. We hit a 24 hpur A&P and get some monsters. We go through a series of backroads and come up to a gate at the end of a street. I go around the gate and through the woods we head down this gravel road and it dumps us out into an open field. I see 2 lifted Wranglers sitting up at the top of the drainage basin with spotlights pointed at this stuck ass Jeep. I couldn't see the tires, only the tops of the fender flares. I was pretty surprised. So we dig for an hour and finally get the tires a bit freed up. We dixie chain the stuck jeep to a wrangler on the side of the hill and up to my truck on the top of the hill on the flat. Matt gets into the Jeep and realizes he forgot his keys. He gets in another Jeep and they go get the keys and come back and now it's time to pull. The Jeep in the middle puts his in neutral and lets me pull the slack out. I drop it into 4Low and start ripping. The Jeep in the middle didn't realize that we had started to pull so he was still in Neutral. The first Jeep's back tires were so stuck that when I start pulling he actually did a wheelie. The other Jeep realized the pulling had begun when I lost traction and spit gravel at his windshield. So I let off and we pull together this time and it comes out. It was amazingly stuck.
7:00AM My Mom calls, and asks me if I'm headed to school, I told her we were packing up and heading up now. So we all get into a line and start leaving. We get out onto the street, and there is 4 Crown Vic's waiting for us. Not gonna make it to school on time. I look out into the woods and there is officers on foot coming out of the woods. There is a lot of cops. So they came around and take liscence and registration from everybody. I started worrying because my liscence is expired, on my other address and I just turned 18. They didn't run my liscence, just take down my info. They pull Matt out of his Jeep and me and Larry are sitting in the Kota. The Officer in charge calls the owner of the construction company to ask if he wants to press charges, the guy tells him it's no big deal, let them go. So we get a lecture and they start to talk to Matt about Iraq and thanking him for his service. I look up and see the worst thing you can ever see when you are in trouble in my town, the undercover charger coming down the street. The guy that drives the charger is a dick, he'll try anything to get you in trouble. The other cops were pretty nice. But the charger cop, does not like Matt, not one bit. He has gotten Matt in trouble for a few things in the past. He gets out and starts yelling at Matt saying how Matt always pulls this kind of crap and even though he has a military ID and just came back from Iraq he doesn't give a damn, it won't be tolerated. After a nice lecture on private property everyone is allowed to leave without incident. I'm late to school so we decide to get breakfast. I'm sitting at a light waiting to head to school and my Mom drives by. I was hoping she wouldn't see me, but she was grilling me. I recieve an angry phone call and I am immediately called a liar and told that I was skipping school. I explained the situation to my Mom and she cooled off but she was heated for a bit.
Lunchtime, my friend Nick, his whole family is employed by the police department somehow. My friend Bryan, his whole family is involved with the rescue squad and fire department. Both have scannerrs, both listen quite often. Bryan and Nick tell me that there was almost a full on man hunt for us in the morning. One of the neighbors called in saying there was tons of jeeps and trucks heading out into the woods by their house. So the cops were searching for quite a bit before they found out where we were. Then they go on to tell me that, the night before there was a complaint of a silver dodge out in the woods behind the A&P but the search for us was immediately called off due to a violent domestic disturbance (thank god for wife beaters!!!!) After that I go through work and school and have a normal day. I went home and told my Mom the whole story and she laughed about it because I wasn't in any real trouble.
930PM Larry calls, I was like you better not be stuck again. He's like dude this is serious. He continues to tell me that, the Dickhead charger cop called the owner of the construction company again in the afternoon and said we destroyed all sorts of stuff and that he highly recommends charges be presses againest us, the guy agrees and decides to press charges. Shit. The cops call Matt around 5. He was headed to Vermont because he rented a cabin for the weekend. The cop says the guy decided to press charges and he needs to get ALL of us to the police station immediately. Matt told him it's gonna have to wait for Monday because he was gone for the weekend. The cop said that if he didn't come in that day, they were going to put a warrant out for all of our arrests. Matt says, well I'll see you Monday officer. So there was a warrant out for my arrest for two weeks.
2 weeks ago, the Charger cop calls my Mom and tells her I need to come in and pick up a summons for court on Monday. He said if I came in and got my Summons my charges would be dropped. So I go down to get it with Larry and when we get there, they arrest us.
Defiant Trespassing.
Mugshots, Finger prints and all that Jazz
Released without bail
Monday 3/30 I sat there for 2 hours waiting and then I was brought before the judge. I was told I was free to go, so I started partying in my head, then the Judge says, because your case is being transferred to Morristown because this is a major offense.
So our case got kicked up to the county level. If you get kicked up to Morristown around here, you really really fucked up big time.
My parents finally know now, because the cops called my house on Friday and told them I had a warrant I had been evading for 2 weeks. That didn't go over well. But they let me go to by myself court because the cop said if I go in and get the summons I would be released and the charges would be dropped on Monday. That was a lie, when I went in to get the summons I got full blown arrested and my case is now a big deal. My parents aren't really mad, they think this whole thing is completely blown out of proportion. Normally my parents are the kind of people that feel like if you did something to get in trouble, pay the consequences. That's normally how I feel. But I feel like I'm being screwed for no reason.
Dad called his friend who is a lawyer so I now have legal representation
I got some pictures of the Jeep after we dug for about an hour. Bad quality, camera phone. Larry told me he has a picture of the Dak chained to the Jeeps and pulling. So I'll get that soon.

They didn't mention me. It was the third one down.
Because Matt's from the Army, I told my Dad this is how I was going to defend myself in court:

It's a long story and to some of you, slightly confusing. Thanks for reading. Advice welcome. Criticism- I know what I did was wrong, and I know what Matt did was wrong. I'm a strong advocate for the opening of public lands on the 4x4 and Dirtbike fronts.
