This is related to my Other thread.

But now I just want to know if there is a way I can simply disable the security. The tech at the dealership confirmed that the new CTM does not have to be programmed so the new one did not fix my issue. Security won't disable with the key on either passenger or driver-side door and we have no key fob. Batter has been disconnected for days at a time and never reset anything either. The tech told me it could possible be the PCM and I haven't tried that yet but am really thinking that's not it. Right now I just want a way to drive it... I found the green/orange wire and grounded it with no luck so any other suggestions? Thanks

Looks like you've checked about everything else so you may want to check out this suggestion. On the back side of the door lock cylinder, there are 2 wires connected to a tab. If for some reason, via pissed off wife and slamming doors, the connector has come off the tab, the security system will not recongnize the chip in the key. You don't have to remove the door panel to check for this. There is a rubber plug on the inside edge of the door directly behind the door handle that can be removed. You'll need a flashlight to see inside to the connector.

I can't say this is your problem, but it won't take 2 minutes to check it out.

This may also be your problem with the salvage yard CTM.

ENABLING
The CTM must have the VTSS function electronically
enabled in order for the VTSS to perform as
designed. The logic in the CTM keeps its VTSS function
dormant until it is enabled using a DRBIIIt
scan tool. The VTSS function of the CTM is enabled
on vehicles equipped with the VTSS option at the
factory, but a service replacement CTM must be
VTSS-enabled by the dealer using a DRBIIIt scan
tool.
Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.

I just had the dealer program my fobs to the junkyard CTM I just installed...they forgot to activate the security so my alarm doesn't work now. Gotta go back again...

Anyway, the wires Dwight mentioned on the back of the lock cylinder do nothing to recognize the chip in the key. It's a simple switch to tell the CTM to disable the alarm when the lock cylinder rotates. The chip in the key is ONLY for the ignition and does nothing with the alarm.

As far as programming the CTM, it should be done. All of the hard wired options in my truck worked just fine when I swapped in the new CTM, but the key fobs did not and neither did the alarm. Put the new one in and ask them to program it as per the VIN for original specs.

I stand corrected on the chip but I do know if one of the clips are off the tab on the lock, if the security is set and you unlock the door with the key, all hell turns loose until you turn on the ignition.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will talk to the dealer about the scan tool. However, I doubt it's the lock cylinder because it still doesnt disable it when I attempt to start the truck. But then again, I believe our key was a spare as it's solid metal without a grey or black head.

If you're dead certain it has security, you will never start it with a plain metal key. Security has to have the grey topped key with the chip in it. Take the vin # and go to the dealer and have a new one cut.

Like $130 for a new key from the stealership

What exactly does the security disable when it's active? Does it cut fuel or ignition or what? I'd really just like a way to bypass it for the moment.

Does the metal key start the truck and then the engine dies?

The security light is flashing and it never has before.. Nothing we do makes it stop flashing either
Totally disconnect the battery, positive and negative, for an hour or so and see what happens. Make sure you have the keys out of the ignition and in your pocket.

I left the Positive cable off for a few days... would leaving the neg off really make a difference? Not quetioning your idea just wondering. I'll give it a try though!

I've read somewhere that the security resets when the battery is removed for a long period of time, but I could be wrong. May be worth a try.
