I think they did have some sort of recall onthem. There is a post on here somewhere about them . I also have a tube I will sell, not cracked.

they will replace them free of charge, my buddy has already gone thru 5 tubes
do they need the recipt?? could someone possibly get me one?? Thanks

When you get the new one, be sure not to over tighten it as that is usually what causes them to crack. People trying to tighten the airhat nut too tight and then the heat of the motor weakening the plastic.

ya thanks. Ill give them a call next week..

I've had several replaced. They did not ask me for a receipt but other have said they have had to send proof of purchase. The will also send a return address label. I've also not sent any of the old ones back.

im going to call k&n tommorow. what should i say to them, i bought a truck that had a k&n intake and its cracked?? thanks for the help guys..

Here's an easy fix to prevent your replacement K&N tube from cracking AND it will prevent the short 1/4-20 set screw K&N provides from coming loose, falling down the throttle body and doing BAD things!

Image

The top piece is the stock K&N shouldered nut. I cut it down to 2.80 inches and cut a piece of 1/4-20 all thread to 3.75 inches.

Image

Using a 13/64 drill I made a pilot hole through the shortened shouldered nut. Don't worry if you damage the threads a little, you can clean them up with a tap, but don't completely destroy them.

Image

Flip the shouldered nut and enlarge the pilot hole using a 1/4 inch drill bit. Run it down until you just touch the top of the threaded portion.

Image

Clean up the edges with a countersink.

Image

Double nut the 3.75 inch long piece of 1/4-20 all thread and LIGHTLY bottom it in the throttle body.

Image

Thread the shortened shouldered nut over the all thread and LIGHTLY bottom it against the throttle body.

Image

Depending on your throttle body and which nut you use to hold the FIPK body you may have to adjust the length of the all thread or the shouldered nut. With the stock throttle body the shouldered nut will need to be about 2.60 inches long, but MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE!

Image

This mod will also keep your FIPK from cracking the tube because the head of the shouldered nut now supports the tube so it can't be overtightened.

Image

Install either the old stock plastic air hat nut or something like this spiffy F&B nut. Make sure the K&N tube is held firmly against the throttle body gasket, but is not being deformed because the modified shouldered nut is too short.

Remember to measure before you just cut using my measurements. The K&N tubes are not very uniform. Just screw the piece of all thread into the throttle body and put the K&N tube onto the throttle body without the airhat gasket. Mark the all thread, remove the K&N tube and measure from the throttle body to the mark on the all thread.

You could do the same thing without drilling the shouldered bolt. Use the double nut method to put the all thread in, be sure to put loctite on the allthread to hold it in. Then, figure out the length you need at the tom, and either use one nut, loctited in place with a washer on top instead of the shouldered bolt, or the double nut leaving the nuts there to support the tube.

they asked how i bought it, and i said i bought it off of someone else. i told her that this is a common problem with the intakes, and she said "yea i know, im going to send you out a brand new one at no charge." all i have to do is put the old one in a box and ship it back to them. even the shipping is paid for too. im glad i didnt just throw the tube away:funny:

You might want to order a Renzoni mount if you have an F&B throttle body.

Theyre only $38
i dont have an f&b, i wish. i have a fastman 52.

Yes you can be good and send the old one back but for what it's worth, I never have. I have three old ones in my garage. The K&N police have never come knocking.
