So I am having a few problems here. First, my cat is bad and the dealer is telling me about 800 dollars because it is a special cat for a 2001 dakota with a 3.9L. I think that it's a bunch of crap and I have been looking around to find cats for 300. Anyone know if there really is a "special" 800 dollar catalytic converter for my truck or will a muffler place have the generic cat for it?

The other thing, along with my cat pushing out codes, I have a #4 misfire (I suspect it's due to all of the ethanol crap in the gas). I have replaced the plugs, wires and the coil pack, still to have the code pop back up after clearing it. What else could be causing it?

Any help is appreciated...

Magnaflow makes an aftermarket cat...we install them...cost is about $75 per cat. I have one on my '94 Sport

Code may be due to vacuum leak or failing injector....also, that misfire may have led to the cat failing....misfires will kill cats fast....

cats are emissions equipment and as such, are covered by an 8 yr warranty. Tell them to fuck off and fix it.

I had my y pipe on my 2001 4.7 (cats built right in to the pipe) done under warranty not too long ago. Ddin't even have to pay the 100 deductable because it is an emmisions part. 800 bucks my ass. maybe it has a 700 dollar dodge emblem engraved on it lol

The y-pipe assembly with the 2 mini cats IS an $800 part. I'm on my 3rd one already (warranty fixes), but yeah, the parts list has always shown something like $798 for the assembly.

I priced one out thru a local muffler shop the first time around and they asked for $950.

Ok, so yeah it has 141000 miles on it. And yes it does have 3 cats with a y pipe, thats why it is so expensive. So I am guessing that there is nothing else to do but to pay it...so i'm not happy with my dodge right now, good thing is, I just got it inspected, so I have a year to worry about it.
