I just recently bought a Trac Loc for my 8.25 Rear Axle. I'm looking for gears now but my buddy told me while I have the rear end apart I should go ahead and upgrade to an aluminum Driveshaft. Besides the junkyards Where can I find one? And if I do go the jy do need to find a 2wd reg cab since that's what mine is and it has the 42RE. Thanks!

you would need a 2wd one...if you can find one...or you can buy my CC one and have it shortened

Are Club Cabs the only Daks (and Durs) that have the alumium driveshaft? What about Quad Cabs? And why don't regualar cabs have aluminum driveshafts? Are there any other Mopar rear drives that come factory with aluminum driveshafts? And why do Club Cabs have aluminum driveshafts?

No where around here that can shorten driveshafts though is the only bad thing.

Club cabs and quads share the same drive shaft im pretty dam sure.I dont no if the regular cabs came with a aluminum drive shaft. Also that bigg ass driveshaft has alot of pains that go along with it.You have alot of clearence issues when your droped. You should be ok but you will have problems if you go lower

well its an offer if you can find a place or cant find a rc shaft

I'm not going much lower if any lower @ all. I'll probally just move up to 265/35R20 which are .5" taller and 1" wider than my 255/35s. The only other thing I was considering was a R/T suspension when I done the v8 swap.

I'll check and see if my buddy knows anyone not to far away that can shorten it.

not sure if djwolf is still running the aluminum shaft but he is fully bagged

and how low are you talking about?

Usually aluminum is used to because it's lighter and so parts can be made just as strong or stronger and be lighter, though aluminum cost more than steel or iron, that is one of many reasons why all parts can't be made out of aluminum.

But I was just wondering why aluminum for the Club Cab and Quad Cab, but not the regual cab? Do R/T's have aluminum driveshafts? It would make sense for R/T's to have aluminum shafts because it would be lighter rotational mass and R/T's are supposed to be the top on the line (not luxury, though).

Il put it this way,my ass end is static drop 6in and i have a 1in of clearence max between cab and shaft. When i hit a decent bump it hits the cab, needless to say i need a new one cause its being used as a bumpstop

I think its because of the length of the driveshaft.

Doesn't dj have a tunnel made in his to clear his drive shaft?

Didn't some of the Fox bodys come w/ alum. drive shafts. I know their's have to be shorter than a RC Dak.

make sure you don't already have an aluminum drive shaft, stupid question i know but i have to ask

The CC and QC daks came with aluminum driveshafts because if they tried to make a steel one that long it would weigh a ton and be extremely hard to balance. The RCs have shorter driveshafts so steel works okay in them and as mentioned is cheaper than aluminum. If you ever compare a RC and CC driveshaft, you will also notice the aluminum CC driveshaft is also larger around.

Thanks for the link, ? though what is the advantages of a 4" over a 3.5"? Also if I do a tranny swap down the road I would have to get another drive shaft right?
