i just installed my hs 1.7 rr's, and i turned on the truck and they were clicking pretty loud.. I know its normal for them to click on start up, but I know they are suposed to quiet down. The driver side got quieter, but the pass side is still loud. I know for a fact that they are tourqued properly(21ft lbs) as I went over them 3 times. I coated them liberaly with assembly lube, and soaked them in oil for 2 days before putting them on. Is it normal for them to click for a full min?? I dont wanna hurt anything, but should I just leave it running and see what it does?? Thanks for the help!!

Adjustables or non adjustables?
non adj. the truck was on no more than a min. the driver side got quieter, but the pass side stayed the same.

my engine was quieter when i started it up for the first time (still is),did you remove the guide plates?.you really don't need a torque wrench on the non-adjustables,just tighten as much as you can with a 8-10'' 3/8 rachet.(its pretty hard to put more than 20-25lbs in that set-up) and if the torque wrench isn't certified then you really don't know what you got.

i got a brand new torque wrench from matco tools. it has been tested by them(i have the sheet). they should be torqued correctly. if i do them by hand i would be afraid i would tighten them to much.

yes the guide plates are removed.

when tightening the RR's,you actually bottom out the swivel on top of the head pedestle,in theory you can't over tighten the rocker, only stretch or break the bolt.also take each push rod between your thumb and finger and give them a little giggle and spin.giggle=bad, spin=ok on a closed valve,so spin on open valve=good

the reason i asked if youre still using stockers or black wrinkles is ive always been told you have to remove the baffles on a stock v.c. to run the 1.7,s as they will hit..which was why i still hadnt installed mine..

The HS non-adjustable RR's were designed to fit under stock Magnum VC's. Somebody gave you FALSE INFORMATION!!!!!! :stirthepo

ok so i took the valve cover off. i am going to torque them again so i know they are correct. i will check the pushrods as well. if i cannot turn them are they too tight?? what else should i look for?? thanks for the help

i can push down on some of the rockers above the pushrod and there is a little play.. (the roller comes up from the valve spring a little bit) should i tighten them down more???

and how would i fix this???
They should pump up on their own,,if they don't more drastic measures will be needed..let it just idle for a few minutes and see if they don't quiten down.. one more thing if your pushrods are too long then the lifters are not being allowed to pump up..

Alright, I let it idle a little bit more. still ticks and makes noise. I pulled the VC again, and pulled off the rocker, relubricated everything, and put them back on and tourqued them. I cranked the motor a little, and felt the pushrods. Some of the push rods that dont have any load on them wiggle side to side the slightest bit. They dont wiggle up or down, and they all spin by hand. What should I do next???

it sounds like everything is ok.do not worry about overtightening,it just can't happen.think of your rollerrocker bolts as normal bolts, they need to be tight, just don't stress the bolt or strip the threads.if using a 3/8 normal ratchet,i seriously doubt you have the strenght to stress the bolt.

i just started the truck again and let it warm up. the noise got quieter, but it is still there. i can here the injectors pulsing, and then i put my head down near the valve covers and can hear a slight tap. i would rev it up alittle bit like 1500 rpm and hold it, but you can still hear the noise. i checked the oil and it is full. i wonder if i shoudl drive it or not, i dont want to hurt anything. any one have any other suggestions?? i want to get this fixed soon. thanks!!
