Well today I have just discovered a ticking in my truck's engine. It sounds like it is coming from under the drivers valve cover. I checked all the rocker arms and they are torqued to spec and set right. Could it be a collapsed lifter or somthing else messed up?

Is yours also fairly loud. Its not realy a quiet tick on mine.

Check your oil.

I've had other vehicles that will get a faint ticking at idle when the oil starts to lose its viscosity. If you have a semi- high mileage engine adding a quart of 20w-50 in with your regular oil change will help keep the top end lubricated better.

Also being your in AZ having the slightly heavier oil added in will actually be a benefit with the heat you have.

I will double check my oil again but it sounds like it is coming from just one cyl.

Mine has always had a ticking noise that sounds like detonation but it only does it at idle, once you give it some gas it goes away. My repair guy listend to it and says its the injectors ticking and its normal. Its been a year or so and its never caused a problem other than making me a little nervous.

I have a fram oil filter. I have used this one the past few oil changes. The oil is nice and in the middle of the safe zone. I never thought of it being the injectors. I pulled apart my whole top of the heads to see if somthing went wrong but its all good.

Ditch the Fram for something else. The ticking will go away when you do change the filter out. You can even get the "090" Mopar filter at Walmart now.

guess what i found out, i have long tube headers w/ 1/2 inch spacers, aluminum edelbrock heads, the spacer does not have the same size holes as the heads therefore it was leaking air from the bottom, unnoticable, but when i put it back together i screwed up one of the threads. anybody know how to do heely coils?

Well I just ran some injector cleaner through it to see if it goes away.

I will check those again. They were all there but i didnt check for tightness.

I have 4 manifold bolts missing :jester: . Frigin New England :cussing: and no ticking.

Change to a Napa or Mopar oil filter and change the filter every oil change, use a heavier oil, and run marvel mystery oil in the gas tank. See what happens.
