So my 99 5.2 is having a problem with the temp gauge. I bought the truck off my dad last year, and i've noticed that the temp gauge never reaches 210, and stays right about a quarter of the way up. I asked my pops about this and he said that its done this ever since he bought it, back in 2k1. He says that he has replaced the thermostat, which did nothing. I also did the good ol' slap cardboard over the radiator and see if that makes it go up, which didnt work. am I right in thinkin that the temp sending unit is bad, and if so, what voltage should it throw if i were to put a voltmeter on it when the truck is at opertating temp?

Mine durango is the same way, runs cold. Tried a bunch of stuff and didnt really help it, so i just live with it. I dont think the sending unit is bad or anything. I know mine isnt anyway, its very accurate. Guy i work with has the same thing on his 5.9. But i look at it as its good, better for performance! My op. temp is about 160. Never goes over.... Still warm enough to kick out a nice amount of heat, and it gets 20 to 30 below here quite frequently...

if you have access to a scan tool look at what the PCM is reading it could very well be the gauge just doesn't read quite right.

A 1/4 of the way up on the gauge means you are running about 190-195 deg. which is normal. Relax and enjoy your truck. :mullet:

I used a Snap -On Solus and it did say that coolent temp was right around 160 -170...

Word. Thanks guys, that gauge not going half way up always was in the back of my head, didn't seem normal. All the other cars Ive owned the gauge goes half way (When they were running right, I like English rust)
